Hi,
I have dvd copies of the All Whites matches in Spain 1982 and
the Road To Spain which shows highlights of their qualifying
campaign.
As these are extremely rare I am selling them for $20
each which I think is very reasonable or $70 for all four. If you
are interested please email me at todd_conley@hotmail.com . I
may be willing to trade if you have any matches Im interested in. I
also have many other matches apart from the ones I have mentioned
here.

1982 was a mockery..5-0 over saudi in the first half in there
country..... when they beat us at home!
Saudi and kuwait had political issues and NZ winning stop
Kuwait from progressing through to play China.

Get
your facts right mate!Firstly, Kuwait qualified by winning the group!! Saudi did not
beat us in NZ. You can say what you like but surely the fact they
conceded all the goals in the first half is still leaving things to
go 'wrong' according to their 'plans' in the second half. And
indeed Saudi hit the bar in the 2nd half. One Saudi goal would have
knocked NZ out. If they wanted it to look convincing why concede
all the goals in the first half?
Plus, football is a funny old game... if you do not realise
that by now you are pretty slow!

KSA's difficulty was with China. The "godless
communists". Speaking, years ago, to a friend who was
living in Riyadh at the time of the game she told me it was the
worst kept secret that KSA were NOT going to beat NZ. The
nice new cars that all of the KSA squad got after "losing" to NZ
seemed an odd "bonus".
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Makes more sense! But why concede them all in the first half
and not just concede a sixth which would have knocked China
out?

Lots of speculation on that. Some ideas.
(a) We're a football team not a political toy...
(b) It was hugely hot and both teams ran out of steam by half time...
(c) We overcooked that first half let's not make it look too obvious....

Seems strange though. We will never know I guess. Just have
opinions.

Remember that the Saudi game was played on that horrible plastic pitch. Not only did the heat play a factor but most of the Kiwis had terrible blisters by half time and had to play the second half in pain. Good result considering.
Also, the story is that the Kuwaitis paid the ref off for their game in NZ (remember the 2 penalty decisions) so if the Saudis did throw it then that is karma in my book.

Hello all seeing your'e so interested in 1982 I've decided to start looking for people who were in Spain for the World Cup. Seems as good a time as any. Time for a reunion maybe? Do you know anyone?
