The event also afforded the New Zealand contingent a great opportunity with the three teams who have been confirmed in the other pool - Germany, Chile and Australia.

"Once we knew the draw, we talked to the other pools teams about preparation games, everyone was shuffling to see who they could play," Martin said,

"We are close [with those]. We're talking about games versus training camps and we also have to have an eye on the October international window.

The NZF boss did, however, confirm they were "close" to confirming the All Whites full calendar for 2017, including a potential post-Confederations Cup match against Japan, and had returned from their negotiations in Russia "as though it was pretty much done".

Friendlies with those teams is all up about the best u could hope for. Slightly more realistic to think we can  compete with teams in our pool and get to play Aus, Germany.

Chile is a fantastic option for a friendly. I say this as it's a South American side, and it makes sense to prepare ourselves at least a friendly match against a team from that region.

Brazil and Argentina are coming to Australia in June to play each other then one of them will play the Socceroo's. I am wondering if NZF might jump on this to get us a friendly with one of them.

We can't afford either team... nice dream though.

Japan makes commercial sense.

You can only play twice in a FIFA window, that India friendly would make us play 3 which is impossible

Plus can't see us playing a friendly in India before WCQ in Fiji

how often do matches that we find on websites like this and FIFA.com etc actually happen when not prior announced by NZF?  Not many if any I believe.

From Piney on twitter:

An NZF spokesman has confirmed the All Whites will play Belarus in Minsk on June 13 (NZT). Advanced discussions on 1-2 more games also.

Hudson was just on radio sport, hoping to announce in next week or two another two games before the Belarus game.

India have actually announced their senior national team is playing Cambodia that day:

http://www.india.com/news/agencies/indian-football...

What it could be is that our u-17 team have been invited to play a friendly or two in India.

The FIFA u-17 World Cup is in India in October and OFC qualifying is starting this weekend.

A March 22 fixture in India would make sense for our u-17's.

Looking at the dates of the friendlies and the Confeds cup, I wonder what the implications will be for Lewis and Dyer who feature in Hudson's plans, as the under 20 World Cup is 20 May onwards and it would appear to have overlaps in timings and they would be playing that too?

I feel like the AWs are playing more games than ever, am I right or just paying more attention in the last 12 months?

Permalink Permalink

Correct. But that's because it's the time in the WC cycle where qualifications games take place. If we hadn't won on penalties(!) in PNG, June would look very bare.

So we should see All Whites play 11 times this year. 4 WCQ games, hopefully 2 playoff games, 2 friendlies (3rd one is behind closed doors against a club side) and 3 confeds cup games.

Anyone else a little disappointed by that line up. Thought we'd get a team in the other group, like we played Italy in South Africa.

I'm disappointed on the club game. Heard Hudson on the radio and he was talking about how we had lots of offers from teams and it was just sorting out logistics, made it sound like we had options for better opposition we could have possibly lined up. So unless the other teams where just more club teams, it feels like we missed a chance to play another international team.

Does it have to do with the fact that you can only play two Internationals within a FIFA International Window?

Mystery Irish club side in Dublin could be either; Bohemians, St Patricks Athletic, or Shamrock Rovers.....The 3 Dublin based League of Ireland Premier Division teams.

True, didn't think of that requirement.

Other reliable international competition probably wasn't as available in south Africa whereas in Russia, the whole of Europe is at their doorstep and a wider choice of suitable opponents available.

report said the irish club side would be a combination side (or it just could be Southern United!)

aye its not the most exciting, but I would expect us to have a better chance of getting something from these games

If we organised a game against Germany and got hammered 5 or 6-0 it wouldn't do much for confidence.

Ignore 2010, and you could easily argue the best warm up resulted in the worst performance (2012)
