govt gives Team Nz 34mil for racing in the americas cup.. yes yes.. and its out money.. yes .. yes

so if they give 34 to a boat plus 10 more to keep the crew..

so why dont the govt give 44 to keep Nelson and killen and co to stay and play footy in Nz, why not keep our top cricket, rugby, netball here in nz for 44 mill.

Its pathetic .. 44.. for  A bloody boat no one seems to care about. "an investment" that didnt pay off....

The americas cup if held in Nz can reap huge econonmic rewards for the country.
i tihkn giving money to build a boat is quite different then giving money to keep players in a country.
I would be pissed at Killen and Nelsen if they stayed in Nz for the money they should want to play for the best teams against other good teams not just because they are being payed money.

I saw a poll on Yahooxtra that said that
48% of kiwis wanted the all blacks to win the rugby world up
46% of kiwis wanted Team Nz to win the americas cup more
the rest said didn't know what ever.

Another poll on the same site said
74% of kiwis wanted to watch the Americas cup over the all blacks test
26% said they would rather watch the all blacks.

No one cares about pfft

what annoys me is that yachting is generally a sport for the wealthy to begin with...how about more support for the sport us common folk partake in (and i dont just mean football, i mean netball, swimming, athletics etc)

i know that it does throw alot of money towards the economy etc, but what about looking after the stuff we actually need, ie: throw some coin at the doctors etc who are always leaving so we aren't screwed in the future INSTEAD of throwing money at a group of rich boys and their toys. if they want money they should go and see their sponsors, thats what their for.

NZ$44million for our Footballing All Whites wouldn't it?  Netball, Rowing, Swimming, Hockey and Athletics would all love that much dosh too!  Don't talk to me about the America's Cup!!! I didn't even watch any of the rich boy races!!!! Mammoth waste of money. A bit like sending two people to a Hip Hop festival in the United States on a "fact finding" finding mission!

This is more evidence that the money should not have been spent. After all - the cup will not be held here, cos Team Dubai did not win it. As I have said before, if the Government really wanted a big yacht race here then they should Post $35 m as the prize money for a yacht race to be held in New Zealand in three years time. Open the competition to any willing competitors, provided their yacht complies with certain class requirements. Then, hold this event every three years. Guaranteed income. And dont tell me teams wont compete for that. The prize money of the Auld Mug is $0.

The interest alone off $44 million big ones would keep NZ Football going!  Think of the preparation all our national teams could have!  It doesn't hurt to dream I guess.....

Sorry I dont follow you please explain clearer. If we win the cup Auckland will make a mammoth profit for this country how can that be a bad thing? I don't get you.

The team Nz  need money to compete the all whites don't

How about some more for us teachers? I'm on $43000 a year, with a degree and the future of 31 twelve year olds in my hands, while Beckham's picking up that much cash a day.
No wonder the planet's f**ked.

I say we take away the passports of all qualified NZ doctors, nurses & teachers etc.

In fact, no OE to anyone with university qualifications.

Exactly! Would some polition stop thinking about their own beneficial wealth or upping the countries wealth in a sense to start growing other sports in new zealand? i mean building youth centres and putting more money into training etc, football is the worlds biggest sport and i think new zealand should be embracing it more as we are verry ambitious about football but arnt given the resources or space to expload onto the world map as effectively as other sports..

We would stay if we didn't have to pay mega bucks plus interest to the govt.  Gotta pay that debt back somehow!

Its all changed my friend. Interest-free student loans.

Don't worry - I was too late for one of those too and it took me about 12 years to pay it off.
