HI there, would love to hear which tactic I could use instead?

Sure

Let me clear, I am not knocking your project at all, just maybe your method of getting funding. I don't think Kickstarter is the way because the generalisation of the demographic that use Kickstarter is younger. Your captive audience is going to be more than likely older because some young folk associate more with the class of '10 and that world cup so they don't give a fuck about '82 other than they charged our young guys $2k to play for NZ age group teams. For the older folk, they worry about that kind of 'on-line thing' - I can tell you cause some of my mates are like that and don't get simple on-line buying let alone crowd sourced funding. You are also looking at a compressed time period for raising that kind of cash with a niche topic for the wider Kickstarter community and then asking those not on there, to tune into it.

You seem like a smart guy and passionate about this. I admit though that going down this avenue is smart, just wondered if you could have set a lower target to get a better chance of buy in. It seems like you are getting a few stonewalls in your face which is understandable, but unfortunate. I do hope you get success in this and as much as it looks like I have poo pooed it, can I suggest the following avenues which may help you - you may or may not have tried them.

1: Email every ASBP club (or do this in winter and hit as many winter clubs as you can). Get inches in their programme. As you said, you are looking to the wider football community. I don't think you would get knocked back if you asked to put a piece in their programmes about this. This target the fans that are tuned in now and not on this message board

2: It seems the networks are not interested. Have you gone to the people in media that are football friendly and have a voice? Gordon Glen-Watson, Martin Devlin, Miles Davis, both Holloways, Niall and Ian Anderson, Tony Smith. Can these people help you with exposure to the public via their channels in the press (and I guess you can throw in Jason Pine, Andrew Gourdie and the 'In the Zone' podcast folk) These people are football positive and it will give them a fluff piece midweek to fill inches or airwaves when the football news is dry. For you, it created momentum and exposure. Ricki van Steeden is a producer/director at Sky. Can he help?

3: If Kickstarter falls over then you don't get the cash. People will still want to donate however. Some people have an unbearable need to see where their money is going and how it tracks regardless how little that donation is. What's your avenue for keeping people informed if the Kickstarter campaign does not work? Have you asked for a webpage you can update with how the project is tracking both from a financial point of view and also a progress point of view. How can they see a 'target cash pile' (like those funding thermometers)? How can they see the progress and what their donation is buying? Can the YF guys donate a page to you to set up? Some people will not donate if they don't hear anything for 2-3 years for this project to come live (again I have no idea what time frame you are looking at). The Ronald McDonald thing on this forum works cause people can see the results every week so they have relevant and 'now' buy in. Some people need that.

Hope those suggestions are helpful.
