Makes you wonder if he has some connections too.

Random English coach coaching in Asia.

Not sure how I feel about it all to be honest.

The problem is, our budget will be limited and I consider the coach won't make a huge difference at the end of the day.

That's not to say I don't want us picking the best eligible players (without playing favorites or putting people in naughty corners) and playing attractive football...I just feel like no matter who the coach is we've got few chances of going through again.

Surely and candidates for the new coach role will have to have posted on here at least 500 posts to be considered anyway credible by...I'll stop now.

If I were smart, I would look to get my hands on this job ASAP.

1: The next 4 year cycle will be quiet and thats just the way its going to be

2: The 4 year cycle after that, you are pretty much the only team guaranteed to be going to the WC. I can't see any other teams in OFC getting past us so get in and do the 4 years knowing that the 4 after that you will be in the Worlld Cup and coaching in the shop window. (wherever it is in 2026)

Any word on how Andreas Heraf is working out? Would seem to tick a lot of boxes.

Could he do his current job as well as coach the AWs? 

He certainly sounds impressive. Anyone on this forum met him or had any dealings with him? 

Recently questioned Rob about him, he seems very well respected in NZF. 

Quick summary: Has a good deal of international experience, both as a player (quite a few caps for Austria) and as a manager (pretty much every Austrian age level side - mostly overachieving, coached players such as David Alaba). Spent most of his playing career in Austria reaching a European final with Rapid Wien, managed mostly in the Austrian Bundesliga with moderate success.

And a known quantity, having spent enough time here to start gaining some respect. Someone who's on record as loving NZ, knows what he'd be getting into if he were to take over the AWs, and is probably a better option than someone we might talk a good game with their CV, but then not deliver.

How many coaches land decent jobs from solely being present at a World Cup with a shark nation? I'd wager not many.

What is firstly required is for NZ football to have a decent Board. If you look at those running Auckland City and Team Wellington there are several amongst them who know how to win. If we have these type of people on the Board then they will select the best person not some "Flash Harry" who knows all the talk about nothing.

Also we would not get the "we have searched the globe and recruited the best person" bull crap.

I think Heraf should be offered the role with Ramon as his No2.

If Ramon can stay on at Auckland at the same time, this would be brilliant but sadly won’t happen

Ramon: give me a break the team would be full of foreigners.Put this chap Heraf in place with a Kiwi under him with a view to eventually taking over.Ramon wouldn't want the job because Winston Peters Controls immigration now. Here's a long shot Jonathan Gould not a kiwi but worked in a pro environment.Ramon no and he's an arrogant piece of work as well we've had that with Hudson.  

All this dreamland hearsay, I think Heraf should be given the chance to start doing the fudgeing job he was hired for or give it to someone else and get coaching.

I'd be happy with either Ramon or Heraf with a preference for Ramon being part of the setup as he knows the NZF landscape well. Throw a bit of Declan in the mix too and never step back to the long ball crap we constantly get served. We have some very young technical players that keep hoofing it at the national level because people don't believe they can play the possession game despite how they play for their clubs. I call that a waste of talent.

no rush, with no internationals scheduled until 2021 due to budget restraints no coach needed in the interim.

About the same as players from sharke nations who stand out in their sharke teams because everyone else in the team is sharke.

The fact that we have no fixtures gets thrown around a lot. But that's the nature of international football. Friendlies don't get organised years in advanced. Often its only a month or two. So not hiring a coach because there isn't anything concrete at the moment seems bizarre. 

For example, Chile have no games planned either. 

To replace Mesut Ozil, no less.

The interview he had talking about the world cup became a running joke in our family. I believe a reporter questioned him about Premier League scouts coming to watch NZ, and Bertos replied along the lines of "you know, it doesn't have to be just the Premier League, I'd be fine with a move to Serie A or the Bundesliga, I'm keeping my options open". I wonder how he enjoyed the Indian second division

I remember all that, it was cringe worthy. I sort of felt sorry for Bertos, because the rumor seemed to have been made up in New Zealand, passed on, repeated, enhanced etc all in New Zealand. I think it then ended up on Goal.com, but they quoted Stuff or something ridiculous like that. It appeared that there was never any genuine link and Leo got swept up in it all. 

I do not remember that. 

But I do remember the Paston to Spurs rumour.

Lochead to Middlesborough  lasted less that a week. Pretty obvious really. 

Don't think anyone has gone A-league to EPL? Especially guys, that while good A-league players, weren't the stand out players in their team or league.

A guy like Mooy has almost done it, but he had already played at a high level overseas.

Jedinak spent a fair while in the Championship and Ryan spent time in other European leagues.
