I reckon FFA will go for a short term appointment for Socceroos gig, so Arnie can take it on some time after World Cup. Meanwhile, is Martin back from reading CVs on his holidays yet?

Nope, not Louis, but job does go to a Dutchman. Does this mean Graeme Arnold is still a possibility for the AWs job?

I believe the general feeling is that Arnold will get the Socceroos job post World Cup and post A-League season.

If you were Arnold, what would you think about that? I'm not good enough to take the bloody team at the World Cup but ok after that - "Get fudgeed" I'd tell them.

He pulled out of the race last week, saying Sydney were his priority.

Does that rule him out for the AW job?.

But perhaps he knew he wasnt getting the job anyway.

Greenacre and Buckingham announced as the assistants for AW coach. Odd without the team naming the coach.

Why appoint AWs assistants before the head coach is in place? Head coaches often want to bring in their own people. What happens if the new boss doesn't get along with the assistants he's had foisted on him? Potential here for some big problems.

Piney seems to think on twitter that the head coach has been chosen and that NZFs shortlist is a very short list of one...

Yes I imagine AWs coach chosen but not yet announced.

Excuse my ignorance of NZ domestic/Handy Prem. Would Ramon have previously worked with either Figueira or Buckingham? Figueira was at Auckland City once upon a time?

Remon was first team coach and Jose was U20’s coach at ACFC for a few years.

You would have to think that these appointments are the "low budget"option for NZF. Greenacre and Temple are keeping their current jobs at the Nix as well as taking up the NZF youth positions....so i would imagine that the wages will be shared between NZF and thePhoenix.

I have no problem with Figueires as he has some "form" as a coach. He has actually has experiance  as head coach and won stuff. But Greenacre and Buckingham???? The NZF media release said they had extensive experiance as coaches......really?????

Greenacres coaching career consists of an unsuccesful spell under Ernie, a bit part as temporary Nix coach for a handful of games and then coaching the Nixettes for a half season were they are firmly anchored near the bottom of the table. I have seen zero evidence that he is a capable coach. But , hey this is NZF......jobs for the boys etc. Meanwhile Buckingham...who i would admit has some potential as a coach has a background as head coach of Oxford under 13's, keeper coach at the Nix promoted to head coach for a handful of games and then half a season as reserve coach in the UK.

Are these guys really the best thats available to progress the youth of NZ?. You could also ask why over the last few decades there appears to be little attempt to progress ex All Whites into coaching a NZF level. What is it about the culture of NZF that  people like Danny Hay do not see any future i n the institution? Why do we keep parachuting in lite weights from the "mother country"into NZF coaching positions, surely there must be a pathway for kiwis for these jobs?

So much THIS. unless of course new AW coach has already been sounded out about it and obviously said fine to kepp him or herself in the running. I can live with it if it’s Ramon (as there’s probably enough common ground of working with kiwi players), but struggle with the concept if it’s some “up and comer” from offshore. Wouldn’t surprise me at all though if it’s a Heraf yes man. #austrianempire

What am I missing - NZF appoint  U 20 + U 17 coaches.  Are these positions instantly All Whites assistant coaches?

I'm a little troubled that these and many other appointments are not Kiwis. What does it say about our development pathway and programmes for coaches if our homegrown guys aren't coming through to these positions. If its just a simple case of NZF thinking foreign is better, then ok, but if its because we don't have people good enough - that is an indictment on NZF and the game in this country.

Any other Kiwi names who could be in the running, even if not obvious frontrunners? Most of the usual suspects seem to have landed youth team or assistant gigs. Wonder if it means that Heraf will tap one of his overseas contacts.

Sigh.  Is that not a recipe for dysfunction?  Why on earth would you appoint the assistants before you had a coach in mind?

How often does this approach fail in corporate life, never mind sporting teams? Seems absurd to me too, and makes me wonder how these guys can juggle so many roles too?

Any kiwis coaches looking to upskill via coaching courses...Head oversea's to do them..No point giving NZF your hard earned dollar and it goes out the other end the end to these mercenaries - Jose an exception.
