A bit more thought has gone into these comments thatn the one above. That was just an initial reaction.
Bouckenhooge has to be NZs answer to Wes Brown and England. Always gets a call-up, no-one can ever understand why.
How long until Nelsen withdraws?
Doesn't Glen Moss' cap total show you how very little we get to actually play? I know Paston has got the nod recently, but only 7 caps so far?

Ellensohn was excellent with the youth team in the Islands recently.  Stood out like dogs' nuts. Smithy2008-06-24 15:31:55

Aside from Boucks, who gets played as a defender now (usually forr the last 20) for the all whites i doubt the other two will see any real game time.

Brockie continues to fall down the radar, and no costa, is Ellensohn better at the moment???

Brockie is hands down a better player than Ellenson. Costa will soon be hands down a better player then Ellenson.

If Pearce and Ellensohn are  in this team ahead of Costa... then why weren't they at least trailed for the Phoenix?

Pearce I can live with, I'd've picked him, but Ellensohn has done nothing whenever I've seen him play. Fair enough about his recent performances for the age-group teams, but better than Barbarouses? Costa should definitely be in before him. In fact, so should Greg Draper.
And why bring Bouckenhooge all that way for 20 minutes. Give the position to an NZFCer instead and save the fare.

Costa is to young and has only played about 10 games in the last year.  Elliot has played less but is far more experinced.

what's also interesting is the timing of the announcement.  they don't play for months and there is also a none too insignificant olympic tournament being played in the meantime.  i'm sure (well hoping actually) that a bolter or two emerge from the under 23 squad.

and another point; chris james is not too busy to sit on the bench for the AWs against New Caledonia, but apparently far too busy to attend the olympic games as a guaranteed starter!?!? you must be kidding me!

allan pearce - good call.

SO sick of the Costa and the All Whites debate I mean the kid has talent but is so overated its not funny. Did you watch the Under 17 world cup he choked it big time as was rubbish when his team needed him to stand up and be counted! He will play for the All Whites in the future but is no where near ready and has achieved very little at the levels required to warrant all whites selection. Let him get some game time in the a-league this season if hes up to it and excel for the Under 20s at there qualifying etc then re assess it.

Good to see Pearce rewarded for a good consistent NZFC.

Jeff Campbell good left foot but is so slow and no wear near an International Player anymore!

agree with the Costa comments. Needs a few more years to develop. Look he's in the NSW prem league at the moment not scoring goals. (crap team tho). Will be a good impact player this year for the phoenix though.

I agree that Costa is young, but look at a couple of the players selected in the team like campbell and ellensohn, they are worse than him and in there.

Age should be irrelevent, what should matter is quality. And i'd argue he offers more to the team than those two.

Well said, my sentiments exactly. And what better time to give him a debut and see how he stacks up than in a couple of matches against inferior opposition. Get the point we need in the first game and give him a debut in the second. I'd've called up Jack Pelter (for Old) with the same thing in mind, although he might be too busy trying to get a contract in Europe.

I think its a great selection. Espicailly to see our best from around the globe as well some of the best of the NZFC in there too (Pearce and Ellensohn).

One selecetion i would argue was that of Jeff Campbell, good left foot? How about local boy Darren Cheriton? Best dominant foot in the Central Premier League by far, and arguably the best left foot in the NZFC....

Yeah to be fair Cheriton impressed me in the NZFC and is a very tidy technical player with a good left foot that probably would have been a better bet than going back to Jeff Campbell.. Someone mentioned Pelter well how do you pick someone who was 3rd choice centre back for the U-20s and will probably struggle to make the final olympic squad of 18 unless Ryan Nelsen isnt released?

Dazza is also the go to man at the moment when the Phoenix play matches and need extra players.

He's got more Nix caps than Cleberson.

Clebo, incidentally, is living in Paraparam I hear?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
