If New Zealand can hold them and come away with a draw or a narrow loss, I think they have the firepower in Shane Smeltz to win by enough in Wellington, says Micael Lynch, Melbourne Age.
Even the neighbours reckon we might do it.

IMO we can pick two out of Smeltz, Killen Fallon and Wood and we'll look dangerous up front. It's a decision that should be made purley on form for their club sides leading up to the 14th of November.

sh*t could even bee wood and fallon starting. 2 huge buggers one with ample pace. interesting.

It's actually dropped lately, all the other three have scored more recently than him... and he's here in a fornight so no chance there :)

I'm watching a replay now to get another take on it, and most of the chances Bahrain have had must have been close to offside and we've close to matched them in chances.

There was about a 10 minute period after MAcglinchey came on where we upped the pace and started knocking the ball around very well which bodes well

Can't wait can't wait can't wait. If Killen keeps his form he could be the hero of the night.

all thanks to Mcglinchey's pass, move get ball back routine which he is good at unlike the other 2 mid-fielders......

yea, he got suspended and it must have lowered his confidence.

Hopefully, ticket sales will pick up this week. A noisy RoF could well be the winning of the game...

be really interesting to see who trots on at the start

4-4-2 please

Bertos in usual position

for the rest "In Ricki I trust"
10 Oct 21:04 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
I'm thinking that Ricki should have maybe brought Scott or Mully on today depending on who he wants in the second leg. I wouldn't mind seeing Siggy there but don't know if it will be the case. I could see
      Paston
Sigmund Vicelich Nelsen Lochhead
                 Elliot
      Bertos       McGlinchey
                 Smeltz
           Fallon    Killen

Tough call for Brown, but we've gotta look at McGlinchey seriously. He really sparked it for us.
I know we need some defensive stability through our midfield, but this morn we effectively had two midfielders and when McGlinchey came on, I didn't notice any more pressure through the midfield. And I believe Elliot played damn well at the confeds when he had wide midfielders to play off so with Bertos and McGlinchey sort of interacting infront of him, we could seriously be on top of them.

And boy, if wood caries on playing well for West Brom, he's gonna be big. Really impressive.

10 Oct 22:53 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
Scott at RB, he was good against Iraq and that just means tough luck for Ivan, who was outshone by Siggy and nelsen. McGlinchey needs to be where you have Smeltz, creating chances, he isn't a wide player, Smeltzy also showed tonight that he is by far most effective infront of goal where he can use his predator's instinct. Don't play him wide or in midfield where we have better options.
You know we belong together...

10 Oct 22:56 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
c'ant believe Wood is only 17....he looks real composed on the ball, has a nice touch and shoots well. He could well turn into a very good player.

Ricki has a problem with RB. Both Scott and Mulligan are not playing football at the moment....its a huge ask to get them to play in a WC qualifier from a training ground.

He might stick with the first leg team with a toss up between Brown and mcClinchey.

Just an aside.....how did the phoenix let MClinchey slip past them/....he would have been a useful player for us

Agree with PWFs team. I definatly think that team could win.

With Siggy, weeMac and Smeltzy all out of position it's not ideal.

McGlinchey is better central, unless that formation is actually meant to show that he is wider then it appears. I agree though it is not ideal but we have quality in some areas and no quality at all in others. Plus it is common place in national sides for players to play out of position. An example that springs to mind is Lampard playing deeper for England but as an attacking midfielder for Chelsea.
10 Oct 23:26 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
I would rather see an out of position Siggy in RB than have Leo tied up in that back corner again. We well and truely lost his effectiveness, plus him (Leo) out of position in "RB" in some ways terrifies me S.O.N2009-10-11 12:27:46

On a side note, disappointing we couldn't get a Friendly vs Netherlands as they are down in this part of the world at the moment. Did they travel all this way for just one friendly game and nothing else?

Can we now remember  that we aint there yet? Yes we are close but the mountain still stands.

NZ need a WIN. Different kettle of fish in NZ. Bahrain will come out all guns firing as they did against Saudi and we need to be prepared.
