Have to remember that rugby was in an even worse state in '82 and it was still the top sport

Yeah, but 15,000 people in the RoF on Saturday (that's 42%, numbers fans) came from outside Welly, like me. So maybe two friendlies at the RoF and one at North Harbour? Pretty please?

Oh, and I would have never paid $80 for the game, not being a hard-core fan. $60, maaaaaybe. But then you'd have to pay me to go to a rugby game.

Even after going to it?
I would pay 400 for the next it was amazing
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

Crazily off topic, but a new kit for the World Cup must be in order.

You can't really change the kit much

I managed to find a highlights clip from an Arabic TV station on a Chinese website. Just don't ask me why...

And here is one to music

And if you want to hear it from a bored sounding Chinese sports newsreader...

P.S. Is the post match interview with Ricki Herbert online? Can't see it on Youtube.

I had to pay for my train trip there and also for my mates ticket, so my total outlay was more like $220. And let's face it, I wouldn't have wanted to pay $80 for the wrist-slitting feeling that would have happened if (for example) Paston had missed the penalty.Doloras2009-11-18 09:32:59

Common practice that teams introduce new kit designs for the WC.

Agreed. 'All White' doesn't give you a lot of scope to be creative. Which is a good thing!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Tbh the next friendly should go to Christchurch (I live in Wellington). Auckland should be the last place to get a game.

I really hate to take this thread off topic but I think lots of the Auckland bashing on here is pretty unwarranted. The Kingz actually used to have great support, some of their fans (think Bloc5) were awesome. The Knights got sh*t crowds because of their awful results and bad management and wouldn't of got better crowds in Wellington. Also, All Whites games and age group events have actually had okay crowds in Auckland in recent years.

I don't disagree that the WC qualifier should of been held in Wellington, I'm glad it was, as it was an awesome event and a fun holiday!.. but a friendly in Auckland would be good for NZ football in my opinion, it's NZ's largest city so even if most of the people who attended were just jumping on the bandwagon that's fine, as long as it converts some new fans that's a good thing.

^^ That. It would be good to see a high quality football match that doesn't involve travelling across half the country. There were a lot of Aucklanders who travelled down for the game.

yep, and weren't you glad such an important game was at the home of football- where town is a ten/fifteen minute walk away and the council knows how to run an event

I never said the WC qualifier shouldn't of been held in Wellington, I think it was a good choice for a number of reasons. The discussion was about my preference for where a friendly game should be played if there are any before the world cup.

Yeah but it is likely they will screw it up (LA Galaxy game for example). Christchurch would be a safe bet and also get a good crowd in.

Good crowds like 15,000 to a rugby final to watch a team that just keeps winning?

Just saying

Bahrain rebounded this morning to beat Yemen 4-0 in Manama which apparently should qualify them with Japan (ahead on goal difference) in their pool.

Congratulations Mr. Bahrain.

Asian Cup 2011 Qualifying. Apparently this game was one of the reasons the Bahrain team left Wellington in such a hurry.

Mr. Bahrain mentioned this game here somewhere.

I would LOVE to see another friendly in Christchurch, however in all fairness, big matches should be shared around the Auck, Welly and Chch, with maybe some of the OFC Nations Cup and next WC Quals going to smaller cities when we play against weaker nations, I'll still holiday wherever the AW's are playing.

Does the Asian Cup determine who qualifies foe the next World Cup or is that completely separate?

Not entirely sure but 99% sure these are completely separate. Apparently it is a big deal in the continent involved though!

Asian Cup is like African Nations Cup and European Champs. The winner goes to the Confederations Cup but it has no bearing on World Cup spots.

Its no longer a problem.

Speaking of which, with no words in Maori to help those of us over school age with the anthem, the crowd on Saturday broke into English. With only one verse played, it would have been embarassing if we had hummed the whole verse.edward l2009-11-19 14:31:44

Same here. I don't mind where they play, I will just pack up my bags and go to the place..(and keep the bank account looking very sorry....)

I just feel uncomfortable that AWs may get to play China before the World Cup..No offence to Chinese Kiwi supporters but a match with Chinese national side is notorious for being very very physical, to say it in a polite way. The last thing we want is a horrendous injury to our players just before the World Cup. I hope we get to play Aus.
