None taken from me.  I'd like to see that game but it probably wouldn't give the AWs a good work out - the Chinese national team are weak.

If we aren't playing Oz in the group matches we should try and get them for a warm up or "friendly".

Speaking of which, with no words in Maori to help those of us over school age with the anthem, the crowd on Saturday broke into English. With only one verse played, it would have been embarassing if we had hummed the whole verse.
I thought the anthem was a shambles in terms of crowd singing  - I started singing the english version and peole behind me were singing the Maori version and then were all surprised when it ended after 1 verse - i knew that would happen - missed out on an opportunity to really have everyne singing off the same songsheet in full burst.

How did you know it was 1 verse only?

Everyone here (myself included) was discussing about memorising the Maori words and noone once mentioned (that I can recall) that the verse would only be played once??

We all knew it would be instrumental only though.

Nevermind, we now know it's only one verse, and we've now started a NZ Footballing tradition, singing the anthem in Maori.

A good tradition. I refuse to sing our anthem in English because the words are the most pathetic, grovelling Victorian garbage imaginable. Also "star" does not rhyme with "war".

"Choke" isn't covered in any of those options sufficiently.

To the credit of the Bahraini supporters, they are not blaming missed opportunities in Manama, they are not blaming a defensive error letting in Fallon, they are not blaming a missed penalty effort by their centre back.

On the contrary they are applauding a "better" team that they congratulate for advancing to the finals, and are wishing them well in South Africa.

I think the All Whites are going to have some extra fans and support from the Gulf come next year!

History repeats for Bahrain

We created numerous chances but weren't able to score the one goal that would have taken us to the finals. We missed several easy chances in the first leg which prevented us from taking a lead and a psychological advantage into the return game.
Mohamed Hubail of Bahrain

[quote]For Adnan, who was heavily criticised in the local media after missing a penalty kick early in the second half, the emotions were still very raw: "Missing out on the World Cup has affected all the players, as we all believed we'd get there and have the chance to compete with the world's best in South Africa. The candidate for Asian Player of the Year 2009 then added ruefully, "I'm distraught I missed that crucial penalty which would have helped us greatly in our quest. I expected to score but luck deserted me. I apologise to the supporters for our failing to qualify but I hope we can make up for that in the very near future."

Joy?? What do you mean joy???

After weeks of hype and anticipation, from early afternoon on Saturday my heart started to race and I didn't even want to think about the game!!!

I was a nervous wreck - imagine what it must have been like for the players? I didn't even want to dream that it might happen, and all through the second half I was still waiting for Bahrain to somehow pull it out of the bag.

My friend told me to stop looking at the stadium clock in the second half, saying that it wasn't going to make it go any faster.

I'm sure that the first half went much faster than the second!!

Totally emotionally drained by the end of the game

I know buddy.  I've watched the "moment of Rory" AT LEAST 100 times now.  Some people might call that crazy...

I call it perhaps the most happiest moment of my life.

Came home to CHCH and told the Mrs that it was the greatest day of my life.  She asked whether it was better than the birth of our two children.

After the tumbleweed blew by I assured her that of course it wasn't...

My dad told me before that my granddad, the NZ right wing rugby loving farming type... Who had never watched a game of football before in his 80 something years had said the All Whites game which I persuaded him to watch "was the best sport he'd seen this year".

But really that isn't much of a competition is it (certain 6-0 and 3-0 games excepted).

Also what does your grand dad have against left wings (e.g. Lomu)?

Cracker story Edward l.  McGlinchey has been on a dream run this season since heading here for the A- League and the Mariners, then the call up to the All Whites out of the blue.
Long may his story continue!

I've watched the game a few times myself, just a pity Sky f**ked up the sound.
