Looks like they have picked a slight weakened squad. Only 10 players were involved in the Asian Cup. 3 that started against Uzbek started against Australia in the final.

Agree. Have looked fairly decent at the back. Haven't been camped in our half much, which is probably due to trying to win the ball up high up the field. In fact we've looked good when we've won the ball in their half. Bit of long ball from the back, but that is understandable given the opposition.

Korean goal.

It had been coming to be fair. McGlinchey too fancy on the edge of his own area there and gets caught out. Unlucky for the All Whites.

Thats a shame. I think we tried to play too much in tight spaces when under defensive pressure.

The press will write this off as another loss but we have played ok considering whom was picked.

unfortunate.we've done well given our teams disadvantages in prep etc. Plus we had a disallowed goal as well.  A good outing for Hudson and the lads.

I think it's important to remember the this is a very young and inexperienced All Whites side. So many debutants out there who haven't played beyond ASB Premiership level. No Reid, Smith and Thomas as well - three of the All Whites best four or five players no doubt.

South Korea on the other hand have there two stars out there. Ki Sung-yueng has probably been Swansea's best player this season and Son Heung-min has been one of Bayer Leverkusens best also, starting both ties against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League recently.

The mainstream media and casual fans will continue to largely ignore the All Whites performances and results until the World Cup or some other tournament comes along. As long as we all give Hudson a bit of patience to let his work bear fruit. They were only minutes of nabbing a draw against a reasonably strong South Korean side there. There are positive signs...

Worth getting up for. An encouraging outing. We were unlucky at times but they were pretty slick (as expected). Nothing to be afraid of though in future I reckon - we can only improve - and probably we've got more room to improve than they have.... Have a good night folks!

I think Marinovic had done enough to warrant re-selection behind Glen Moss. Think the battle is between him and Gleeson for #2 but he looks promising.

I think this game really pointed out to me why we need a Chris James/Albert Reira type player. Someone who drops in between the lines, pickes the ball up from defence, is calm on the ball takes his time and plays a good pass. Weemacs a good player but hes just simply not a play maker. His first action is a straight first touch pass to marked player or trying to turn his man. whereas a better deep lying playmaker might take his time sheild the ball and find a pass to a unmarked player allowing us to keep the ball.

I thought the best tonight were Chris Wood, Clayton Lewis, Deklan Wynne, Stefan Marinovic, Bill Tuiloma and Themi Tzimopoulos. I think Tuiloma had his best game for the All Whites but I agree that Michael McGlinchey isn't the man he should be playing next to, he needs someone like an Albert Reira.

Looking ahead I would have McGlinchey start in Ryan de Vries' spot (I know he was just being tested tonight and won't be a long term starting option when Kosta and Thomas return), with Benjamin van den Broek or Tzimopoulos next to Tuiloma and Winston Reid and Tommy Smith as the two centre-backs.

Maybe a team like this:

              Wood

Thomas McGlinchey Rojas

    Tzimopoulos Tuiloma

Wynne Smith Reid Roux

                Moss

With the likes of Lewis, Kosta, Boyd, James, Brockie, Boxall, Marinovic/Gleeson, van den Broek and Fenton on the bench.

Hard to tell. He got about 10 mins. Dewhurst said he is a dead ringer for David Mulligan. I think I recall he made 2 passes. 1 was quality and the other was hmmm. You can't get anything from that. I guess thats over to Hudson and as he said, some players on the training pitch, he can tell he wont select again. Hey - at least he now knows. We were not completely outclassed but Korea were definitely the better side and I have no problem with the 1-0 result. A draw was pinching points as much as parochialism wanted that to happen.

I actually expect this to be the end of the experiment now. I recall on the video clip that the next window was picking something closer to his 25 so he can start building on the program for qualification and 'contact time'. Considering he was building it around the U20s and Olympic teams, after seeing those kids in training, does he still feel that way cause the noises he made in the press suggest more than a few are not up for it.

Also there was far too much long ball for my liking. I know we may not have the talent but Hudson has rambled on about 'the way we play and a certain style'. I saw a lot of whoomphed long ball and get the ball into the other half for knock downs then build. When you direct contrast that with how the Phoenix play, its fudgeing awful to watch and it looks like the team is still playing Ricki ball on attack but buzz about a bit more pressuring rather than bus park when we do not. Having said that, we did at times look exciting on attack. We definitely cannot defend a set piece still and when we press on defense in their half, our midfield does not have a second runner to fill the holes for them to get in behind. Its like we press as a line and leave a massive gap behind it and they just walk into it.

a lot more. Definitely threw Korea out of their stride. Needs bloody fit legs though. Guess this is why the "old heads'" time may be up under Hudson. We were unlucky not to get a result, and who would have said that beforehand?

Was an impressive performance I thought, all things considered. Yeah our defending on set pieces sucked. And yeah we played a bit of long ball, but that's probably partly down to the conditions - it was bucketing down. I would have liked to have seen more of van den Broek, but overall there's a lot of positives to come out of that match.

I'd say they play a lot of long ball partly because of Wood's style up front.

Tzimmy & Marinovic = mom for me. But would've been Wood if his goal had been allowed.

That was actually the most targetman-y performance I've ever seen from Wood. Usually for all his size he doesn't really play like that, but he actually did it well last night.

Only saw snippets of the game - how was Themi overall? Worth bringing into the squad? Could he play DM?

Looked very solid at the back. No idea about DM but certainly hope so as you'd be looking at this.

Yeah, I thought he did too, but don't really like to see him used like that all the time. I know the game tended to move that way for us- sometimes a bit of panic and bash it forward hopefully to Wood, especially as their midfield seemed so strong at knocking our players off the ball.

I think Wood is actually really good when he gets the ball to feet. Usually has a pretty good first touch, uses strength and balance to create a bit of space, and is willing to have a crack.

Overall, I enjoyed the game- plenty of positives. Despite at times reverting a bit much to long ball stuff, we did also try to play a fast passed passing game- sometimes successfully, other times not. I really liked the look of Tzimopoulos- he looked pretty calm on the whole, and did well (as with most!) coming into a very new looking squad. It probably helped that he did actually look like a man playing in a team of boys!

Just wish we had more games of this quality more regularly.

(also- I was watching it streaming- much as I loved the farewell to Cha Du-Ri (and think he is a pretty cool player)- it seemed bizarre to be doing that for a player at half-time in an international in which he had just been subbed off. )

When you look at this and consider there is others that have been around like Payne, Howieson, Kosta as of recent, and then throw in Clayton Lewis with I thought a bloody good debut, Doyle (?), Brockie, Boyd Keat (?) Henderson (?) The Dutch lad (?) and any older heads he may wish to consider (but unlikely) like Durante, James etc then he has at least tried to create the depth he wanted.
