Burfoot is interesting only because there is more than we know. Not born here, no heritage ties. Has been in and out the country... He must have ticked some box somewhere cause he has to have an NZ passport. I'll admit I am surprised cause I thought he was not eligible.

I'll add to that, if he is eligible, then does that make David Browne eligible too cause he is one hell of a footballer.

Burfoot came here in 2003, represented US1 (now Northern Football) in the Danone Cup when he was 12 in Fiji and France. He was in the U17 world cup squad 4 years ago, along with Tim Payne and Bill Tuiloma but did not make the final cut as Steve Cain (coach at the time) liked his players 6 foot tall! He got his citizenship at that time and has been eligible for NZ since then

Didn't Browne play for a PNG youth team before he held NZ citizenship, and is therefore ineligible?

that's correct.

and talking about goalies, what's the deal with Marinovic and Crocombre? there's so much diference between local players like Oli Sail, Tamati of O'Keefe and them? or it's part of that old (and somehow wrong) idea "they're playing in europe, therefore they're better"

I thought that it was only when you have played for the senior team you become ineligible for any other country! I don't think playing for an age grade team such as U17's, U20's affects your ability to change countries!

As long as you are elligible for the other nation at the time you represented the first one is my understanding so if Browne was elligible for NZ and PNG when he played for PNG then he's all good.

Hudson can see a lot more of the local keepers without calling them into camp.

True

But out of the six Nix Aw's  Doyle, Boyd and Stevens are not starters and Boxall and Fenton would be fighting for the LB/RB slot when Muscat returns. We would miss Weemac and the bench would be thin. As long as we got not injuries we would probably be OK

Team                 Moss

Muscat   Siggy   Dura     Carrot-head

           Riera      A-Rod

                  Roly

Burns        Griffiths     Krishna

Not a bad starting 11

The bench would be interesting but would include Hicks, maybe Ridenton if fit. Some of the Reserves would make the bench....maybe Blake and Rufer?

You can't help but look at that above team and think Hudson is doing us a big favour not picking Moss and Durante

Good article by Holloway this morning.

Interesting bits around the team culture thing. I bet he found out how cheap NZF are when he was told they had to give the tracksuits back by the players.

Any ideas on the starting eleven?

I'd go Marinovic in goal with Crocombe coming on at half time.

Back four of Boxall, Reid, Tzimopoulos and Wynne. Van den Broek and Tuiloma in midfield behind Thomas,  McGlinchey and Rojas with Wood up top on his own.

Use Kosta from the bench and also give Roux and Boyd a run out. Then maybe give 15-20 minutes to one or two of the other youngsters as well.

Thoughts?

Reid has hamstring problems and hasn't played for the Hammers recently.

Seems unlikely he'll join the squad.

Anyone know of any others in the squad with injury problems?

Boyd's been out injured too at the Nix hasn't he?

Personally, I would put Tim the greek and dutchie in the midfield (I understand they are DMs?). We know what we have at centre back in Reid, Smith (hmmm), Durante and Boxall. This position is not where we need depth so why put them there. I would be inclined to see what they can do in the position they play most and we need the most.

These three have question marks for me.

Think Tzimopoulos plays most as CB, but would be interested to see how he would go in midfield.

That's a very strong squad.  They will still be hurting from the Asian Cup loss so will put on a good display at home.

Will have to check out the TABs odds on a 5/6/7-0/1 win for them.

Well if we want to qualify for the next World Cup and build a good reputation we need to play good teams like this and perform well. There is no point in beating small Asian teams and Oceanian teams and using that to sugar coat things. I don't expect us to win but I hope to see a good performance and progress.

From Ernies interview re the All Whites you can assume Reid is a no go and with Smith staying put perhaps the call has gone to Dura. Will mean Themy will play CB. Does anyone know if Rojas is injured as he didn't play in the weekend.

No sugar coating here.  Get pumped by Korea and I recon we can kiss goodbye to games against Asia's cream: Japan, Iran etc

Real shame that Kosta is out considering the career-best form he's been in the last few months.

Seems now that Reid will probably be fit - news is he's training this week and likely to play against Sunderland on the weekend:

http://talksport.com/football/west-ham-duo-winston...

But that still makes it only four players in the squad with more than eleven caps (Reid, Wood, McGlinchey, Rojas).

The average age must be somewhere in the early twenties.

Possible starting eleven:

                                                 Marinovic

                       Roux          Reid               Tzimopoulos        Doyle

McGlinchey             Van Den Broek           Tuiloma           Thomas

                                           Rojas              Wood

The defence (mainly the fullbacks) looks awfully vulnerable against what seems to be Korea's strongest possible selection. Yikes!

I think the defence looks quite strong albeit not experienced at playing together.  Tommy Smith got owned twice by Boro strikers last week.

Time will tell noting that a lot of good teams struggle against SK.
