I would say "shirts off time", but that's probably illegal in KSA.

Don't be silly, the special schools don't start until 10.

The irony now is that if we go on to win this match, we then avoid the only CONCACAF team in this competition

4 mins extra time. Mossy given ridiculous yellow, I assume for time wasting.

At least we'd have a chance of doing something about our Arsenal-esque trophy cabinet.

Alternatively he could be in the early morning advanced english class, with nothing better to do than go on YF because the class content isn't challenging him enough

2 mins to go, and Killen tries to waste time in the corner...... Classic NZ.

Nice game. I was interested that our skill levels were definitely higher than the last time I saw us (OFC qualifying). Kosta looked fantastic, and I was interested to Chris James in action for the first time (he was the one taking the deadballs, right?) On the other side, the Saudis had nothing but speed.

Haven't seen any of this as I am overseas. Vader your comments on who played well, should never play for the all whites again?

Yes = james, back 4
No = butler, durante in CM & kostas finishing

good performance, considering the heat. One or two off moments, and nice to see dura at DM although looked uncomfortable at times, no don't he'll grow into the roll. wasnt impressed with Lochead or Bertos, would rather see siggy at RB who played reasonably well.

not a bad effort. though from the bits I saw all whites still need to train on how to keep the ball longer it just keeps being given away to easy

Butler was crap, dura was non-existant. Tony started off really well but it really showed in the second half is lack of speed and the finished product. Chris james surprised me, he wasnt bad and killen was just down right shit after scoring. Kosta very creative but lacked a finish. Not bad for what we've got, I think for once this would have been a game where rojas could actually have played well for the all whites.

Only saw the second half of the second half (sky issues at work) but the stand outs for me in that period were James and Barbarouses. Bertos seemed OK, was definitely involved. I think Durante and SIgmund were off at that point.

a few positives

Chris  James playing in the hole like an old school old fashioned #10 ,

the team seems maturing even without playing much time together.

Ricki Herbert change the tactics from a 3-4-3  to a 4-2-3-1.

#18 Clapham he looks classy, relaxed and tidy when he came on as a holding mid, for the first pass forward, he has a good touch and eye for passing around.

Winston Reid played like he was Paul McGrath.at times.

Team Work

Negatives

Sloppy defending at times in first half.  Lack of togetherness between Reid and Smith but that's because the lack of games together

The counter attacks from the saudis.

The 2 holding midfielder in 1st half were just chasing the flood of the game, they didnt impose themselves.

Missed golden chances, Nz should have killed it off in the 1st half

Thought kosta was bad, would drop him for that performance tbh, and siggy needs to stop hoofing the ball away when hes got time.

Pretty good overall, definitly needs polish but a good foundation.

And did the lino actually give an offside form a throw in?

Edit: didnt see anything after the goal.

And I think McGlinchey makes the team 10x better

Chris James. Had high hopes for him at the start of the match and he pretty much met them. Really solid performance. Could see him and Wee Mac doing a job in the midfield.

Finishing needs to improve. Kosta in particular. We need to be taking those chances.

Overall though, pretty happy with that performance.

better to win the whole thing for moral boost.   T&T  is at CONCACAF but is not similar to the teams NZ would play.  T&T is like NZ or Australia, Wales, CanadaJamaica.  NZ needs to play a friendly vs Bolivia, Ecuador or Venezuela at least to try their luck.  El Salvador and Guatemala they are out of the hex could be a good test.  NZ may play Panama, Costa Rica or Honduras, Jamaica is very much out of it, needs a miracle

Mr Lochead very unflash, panicy.  Chris James, pleasant surprise.  Howeison improving, and better higher up the pitch.  Dura doing best he could in a new role.  Saudi breaking often with far too much ease in the first half, then we got our shit together somewhat.  Overall, not too bad really, and yaynus, no-one's filled with despair/gloom today....

His finishing was dreadful but his movement off the ball was significantly better than anyone else on the team. I think you have to stick with him. I would consider playing him more centrally behind Wood and Killen/Brockie for the next game.

Was there a reason McGlinchy wasn't playing? Is he even with the squad?

That's a good result, a win is a win is a win. I think the dura thing is tough on him. He has max 3 games in the position to prepare now - he's never going to be ready and I'm not sure he's really suited to it at all anyway.killen is an odd one, well psst his best but still a goal threat. OK bench option

Normo's coming home
