If only 1 of Bell & Stamenic starts on Thursday it's Bell. He's hardly played of late. Stamenic has basically played two full games in 4 days in Denmark (one an UCL game).
See no reason why Sail wouldn't play both games, unless he has a shocker in Brissy. Hopefully Howieson doesn't start in either match.
But yes Reid hasn't played a serious football game in 2 months. Hard to see him getting through 2 full games in 3 days.
I think it's the Socceroos who will be more likely to make sweeping changes between the 2 games & experiment - they have far better depth, and Arnie has stated he wants to give everyone a chance to stake a claim for their WC squad.
The AWs I reckon will very motivated for a rare win over the old foe, and play more a full strength team with few changes over the 2 games. Hay knows a victory over Aussie will look very nice on his CV - and by next Monday he could be jobless.
Can only assume Marinovic is in a similar camp to Rojas, in that he's in a relatively new environment, and, while these games have a bit more hype than usual, they are still only friendlies at the end of the day. Had Marinovic been picked I would be surprised if he didn't start one of the games, given Hay hasn't started the same keeper in consecutive friendlies in a window during his tenure.
But given Marinovic is staying at his club, and it seems travel in and out of Japan is easier, Woud has just jumped up from third to second, and Paulsen is there for a combination of being local and young, so you don't fly any of the UK contingent all the way around the world for a couple of training sessions. He's made mistakes, but that's no different to any other keeper; Sail's against Peru was just as egregious as Woud's against Honduras.

I guess the good thing about Woud is that he's still reasonably young along with Searle and they both have plenty of time to become just as good as Sail and Marinovic. Starting one of these matches could give Woud a good chance for him to show he deserves to be in this All Whites team.
But to me Sail should start both these Socceroos games.
I think Reid plays 60 mins max in Brisbane and we move to 4 at the back with a 4-2 (bell and Stamenic), 3 (just, old and mccowatt) and Wood or Waine to finish.
You are smoking crack if you think Baslaj is an option for the AWs. Even Gould shouldn't be one going forward

19 faces, 5 guys missing. Bell, Stamenic, Tuiloma, Greive & De Jong.

Like Australia, the All Whites will only have one training session as a full squad before the first game, though as of Wednesday morning, they were still waiting on defender Bill Tuiloma and striker Alex Greive to arrive.

How has Eli Just not bulked up a bit after years in a pro environment, looks like a kid still.
Only one I don't recognise is the long haired dude doing an early days Brockie impersonation, who by a process of elimination I assume is Kyle Adams? Is he any good? Never seen him play.

I hope NZF is listening to Woodsy and Hay. We have to keep momentum going and make the most of the generation we have coming through.

Sounds like they are a bit pissed there are no friendlies organised for Nov, pre the WC.
I remember Hudson making similar complaints early in his reign.
But doesn’t it cost like $200k or something to assemble the AWs per window?? Similar with the Ferns?? NZF will have to watch their pennies a bit until hopefully grabbing $15-20M FIFA WC qualification cash in 2026. Acting like a MASH triage
Needs to stop trying to play with his feet and stick to making saves.
his errors haven't been solely his own, there have been one or two defenders involved as well, Marinovic and his defence have been leaking goals galore.
#Favouritism

You'd think teams in Australia's group/FIFA would have covered the costs for the boys to play some pre WC warm up games in the Middle East/Europe just prior to the WC, especially if both teams play similar this weekend as I expect they will.
Piss poor form from NZF... again.

The only way a game would be possible is if a team played it only a couple days before their first game, or played it outside of the window. A few teams are doing that, like Qatar is playing Panama, Iran is playing Russia and Tunisia is playing Colombia, but it's likely in-season players wouldn't be all there. It's different to previous years, for example, ahead of 2018 Australia played two friendlies, the first of which was two weeks before the tournament, not to mention that they were already in camp before that too, whereas this time their first training session will probably be a week out.
They could have maybe slipped in a friendly against a non-WC in November, but the vast majority of teams aren't playing then, so most non-WC teams next game will be in March, no different to what NZF has said. It's easy to blame NZF, but I highly doubt they're trying to sabotage their own game.
