DS is right. That game should never have been played. Filthy Grella couldn't keep the game in perspective. Aussies so desperate to win they forgot it was only a warm up for the real deal. Next time I think we play a team that has its eyes on the World Cup, and is not wound up by some insignificant regional rivalry.

Good luck with that.
We got off lightly, Les dog in the Socceroos end was warned by security for starting chants.

I don't think a stadium admin can actually say "this area is standing" for insurance reasons but they could turn a blind eye.

I had the sh*ts last night a little bit as I returned to my hotel but this morning after check out, wandering around inner city Melbourne looking for a cafe for brekky, I felt great wearing my scarf & All White On The Night shirt & couldn't help the feeling when I came across other people in the street wearing Socceroo gear they looked down or away so as not to make eye contact.

Yeah, I got that (the looks away, not the s*its). A stark contrast to the amused and condescending smiles I got on the tram on the way to the game.
Crossing the road in central Melbourne the next day I spot this bald guy walking towards me, eyeing up my supporters scarf and beaming really widely. It's only after he had passed that I realised it was John Clarke!

OK, I'll pop in since that old post was brought up. I'll be quick as I've got to get back to work.

Here's where it went wrong:

1. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/fifa-world-cup/news/article.cfm?c_id=524&objectid=10627607

The lack of transtasman encounters since then led New Zealand Football chairman Frank van Hattum to joke last year that the Australians were "chicken".

2. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/soccer-football/news/article.cfm?c_id=86&objectid=10646171

"I always say friendlies are a waste of time and players worry about injury and suspension in them, but when you are playing Australia all bets are off," Fallon said.

"I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few injuries. I don't think anyone is going to hold back. Australia will be the same - they won't want to get beaten by a team they think of as a lesser country.

"We're going full-pelt with these guys. It's not bad blood, just that old rivalry between New Zealand and Australia."

That is all.

I really liked how Bertos played until he was taken off..

I think he is the most likely to be offered something overseas if he plays well this world cup.

So Van Hattum and Fallon got smart about the mighty Socceroos, who then had no choice but to attempt to break Leo Bertos' legs.

I'm sure van Hattum and Fallon have already apologised to Bertos, after all they really do need to take the lion's share of responsibility for Grella's tackle.

I actually thought the ref might send Fallon for the Grella challenge.

Actually, on reflection that cant explain it. Judging by how thick Grella seems to be ("those tackes are just a part of football") im not convinced he reads the newspaper (if he can read at all).

Lol the kiwis still whinging then?
The effort of the socceroos was probably one of the most uninspired I'd ever seen, can't really blame them given their opposition. It would appear as though the aussie players were suffering from the same attitude as the fans. A sellout mcg for the match against the european champions four years ago and then the FFA cave in to a match against the allwhites, Jesus..

Pretty poor at the moment - South Korea OK but nothing more than that, Japan have been woeful this year (including a 3-0 loss at home to a Serbian third XI recently).

Don't expect AFC teams to make any impact at this World Cup, think all four will be going home after the group stages.

Really ?

Oman at Etihad wasn't worse than this ?  How about both legs vs Bahrain ?  Last asian cup ?

Face it Australia have responsible for some of the most god-awful football asia has ever seen in the last four years.

Oh, and yes we're whining 2 days later, much like you lot are still whining about Italy four YEARS later.
