i kinda think this argument is somewhat redundant. The FFA tried to get a big name side like you guys wanted, but they couldnt.

Not disagreeing with you Sam, but we're not going to sit here for 3 months and say "oh wow, we're going to whip you guys."

Things have changed here, most Oz people gave you guys support for the Bahrain game and are happy that WPFC can pull 24,000 to a game, but we're not looking for that "rivalry".

I think everyone's getting wound up over this for nothing.

The good thing is that bc we want to beat them, and will be fired up, eventually its going to get under the skin of the likes of DS (if not already) and they are going to want to crush us for good measure and to shut us up. Consequently, and despite themselves, they will get fired up too.

Well I'm glad its in Melbourne rather than Sydney, it's comparing playing in Wellington rather than Auckland. Surely, its would be a good turn out.

It was on the 29th May, 2004 for the WCQ. Nearly 6 years ago and it was 1-0 to them.

The last time they played us in NZ was on July 14, 2002 for the Oceania Nation Cup and it was 1-0 to us.AllWhitebelievr2010-02-22 12:19:00

Melbourne is alright. More seats at the MCG so its understandable.

I will hopefully be at this one! I have friends just down the road from the MCG and they are kiwis (now aussies ) But if my parents let me make the trip across the ditch... MAN I WILL BE EXCITED! It isnt even that expensive! Anybody know when the tickets will be available?

Dunno if this will get a big crowd. Talkback radio vibe is that people wanted a big name to play, and that NZ's lack of superstar draw cards will affect the crowd.

Ha ha, nice try Sam but no. The emotion is not there. Period. If ticket prices are $20 (which they won't be) I'd go, but normally the FFA charge good coin.

AUSTRALIA'S meeting with New Zealand in a World Cup farewell game at the MCG in May has more to do with commercial considerations than footballing imperatives.

Initially the talk was of a game against Croatia, or Russia, maybe even England.

So New Zealand it is in a game in which Australia has everything to lose and little to gain. There will be no kudos for Pim Verbeek's players if they win, but there will be plenty of glory for Rick Herbert's Kiwis if they can get a draw or even win at the MCG.

You are right but the big difference is that NZ had just come back from a 4 week tour of China and OZ had 3 weeks to prepare and only had local players to choose from.

...and only 5000 people turned up.  They didn't deserve to beat Tahiti in the Semi.  It was a travesty.

we actually played ok in that game against the aussies in adelaide - the 1 zip loss. it was quite a gutsy effort. then we rested half the team against the solomons (thinking we'd need everyone for the final against aussie) and had the shocker that needs to be forgooten sooner rather than later. that qualifications tournament was a shambles and an insult to the world cup. the whole oceania qualification series squeezed into a couple of weeks in adelaide, a disgrace. and not even on telly that i can recall. I remember listening to the aussie game on the radio.

According to the MCG website Ticket details, including prices and on-sale dates, will be finalised shortly so i dont know when that will be but I'm so excited! My accomidation is sorted and all i need is airfares and a ticket!
