Theres every chance this side could beat them. Historically theres never really been more than a goal or two between us, and with this arguably being our best side in years it can be done. Oz arent that great.
Needs more Oughton
Needs more Wood . . .
Sorry mate odds are I'll be in the latter! I doubt it'll be a hostile crowd though. Also last time I was in melbs for football I was in tard dome wearing my retro ricki so it balances out.
Possibly depends if you're wearing White or Yellow I'll talk to some Aussies when I'm there
I really hope they do an Oz one side All Whites other side scarf... it'd make sense, with so many people having friends/relatives on each side of the Tasman.
Bin Hammam would love that...
You know it only just clicked that this is on May 24 not March 24. I might be able to go now.*awaits slow jokes*
Who cares.

So everyone else can post they're going or not? Man you're reasonable.
that's not too bad, I'm from Auckland
From Aucks too mate. I looked at prices the other day, saw return to Melb for as low as $420 on Air NZ (airport fees included). Also saw hotels available at $91 per night.
Category A - $95
Ridiculous.
Looks like its Cat C or home end for me.

good work, i had to get mine straight away, to avoid disappointment, i was too late last time for the November game in Welly, and had to drive there, etc...

The initial reports, well some of them, did say March 24, I thought so too.
Yup, hope All Whites (home) games never reach pricing like that. Oska2010-03-12 17:57:43
$95 - ouch
Anyone know where exactly the NZ supporters area will be in the stadium? Behind the goal?
Pretty much.
I booked flights today, I know plenty of people over there so I'm good for accom as well. I'll keep an eye out here as it'd be good to get tickets with you guys if a group does head over.
for those that needs accommodation, book asap, as I just got mine still costing $185 for 2 nights and that's on Spencer Street near the station, they're going fast, so act quick!
I have a friend in Melbourne (a kiwi family) and they're a rugby league family, I told her to get tickets to this match if she can cos a live football match cannot be beat for atmosphere, so she's going to look in to it I'm going to live vicariously through her LOL!
So Fallon to start.

Are YF doing a tour over there for the game? Sorry if its been said already.
I probably can't afford it being a student and all but it would be awesome.

^^ i cant believe i missed that. Def needs Wood. I'd like to see him have a little bit more game time at some stage, i cant say hes put a foot wrong yet.
Did anyone notice how big he looked standing next to Barron when they were about to be brought on against mexico?
Did anyone notice how big he looked standing next to Barron when they were about to be brought on against mexico?
Just got given time off to head over to Melbourne Hope there's a good away section.
awesome, I'm sure there'll be enough YF fans to form a good away section to form the ultimate hwite noise
Just booked the flights now, leave applied for... just need to line up some couches to sleep on now!
If there is a decent YF based away contingent I might come say hello at HT or something if its safe.
Possibly depends if you're wearing White or Yellow I'll talk to some Aussies when I'm there
If it helps I've been to more AW's games than I have Socceroos games :)

Too difficult to burn just one side of a scarf

I'm sure Buffy does, as it would be great to go, I care, because i want to know who will be there, and also, I made the same mistake, so I'm glad I'm not alone.

Lol Leggy got burned.
really cheap flight chch-melb on jetstar at the moment.i am heading back to nz for the week then flying back to melb on 23rd may in time for the match..230 oz all up
nice, that's cheap, I paid $446 for my Air NZ one, wanted to do Emirates but their flight time is a bit too late in evenings and I only got 3 days off work
I'm flying Jetstar Chch-Melb too, $850 return for two adults including airport taxes.

Ticketing: Australia vs New Zealand Farewell Match
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today released the ticketing details for the
upcoming blockbuster farewell match between the Socceroos and New Zealand All
Whites at the MCG on May 24 before both teams leave for the 2010 FIFA World Cup
South Africa.
A massive crowd is expected to cheer on the full Qantas Socceroos squad that is
expected to include their biggest names such as captain Lucas Neill, Tim Cahill,
Harry Kewell and Mark Schwarzer as they take on New Zealand.
The game follows the farewell blockbuster tradition set when the Socceroos
played Greece before the 2006 FIFA World Cup at the MCG.
"This match will be the perfect opportunity for Australian sports fans to farewell
the Socceroos before they head off to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South
Africa," said FFA CEO Ben Buckley.
"The atmosphere for the last farewell match against Greece in 2006 was electric and
we are expecting a sea of green and gold in the stands to cheer the boys on before
they take on the world.
"The fact that we will be facing a traditional sporting rival in New Zealand will
make the match even more meaningful with bragging rights on the line," concluded
Buckley.
Socceroos Head Coach Pim Verbeek is also looking forward to this exciting match.
"For New Zealand to qualify for the FIFA World Cup is an outstanding achievement,"
Verbeek said.
"Only last week they narrowly lost to Mexico in front of a crowd of 90,000 which
shows that they are not easily intimidated on big occasions.
"The major benefit for us, in the lead up to South Africa, is that their style of
play is very similar to the "European" style.
"Due to the rivalry between our two teams that goes back many years we are
definitely expecting a very competitive match against the All Whites.
"Finally, the match will not only be an opportunity for the fans to farewell the
Socceroos, but also for us to say thank you to the fans for supporting us
through the qualification campaign," concluded Verbeek.
Tickets for this match will go on-sale to the Football Family from 12 pm Monday 22
March until 9pm Wednesday 24 March and to the general public from 9am Monday 29
March from Ticketek.
The match is supported by the Victorian Government.

I live in Sydney and I'm going to the game, can't wait. I read all the crap about Shane Smeltz, yes he moved to GC but he was fantastic for us, what he has achieved in his football career is fantastic.
Yet instead of embracing him, most of you so called supporters bag him and refer to his wife as a slapper!!!
Shame on you all, check out the link below (in addition go to youtube.com.au and type in shane smeltz...........great videos) , Shane looks very happy with his family (gorgeous little girls) and Nicole is obviously very supportive of her husband, she seems very down to earth. At the end of the day, Smeltz moved on to better things........who wouldn't!
Time to grow up. I bet he has a healthy respect and really good friendships with all the Phoenix boys.
I wish him all the success for the future, and I for one will be cheering him on at the Melb game and for NZ World Cup. GO SMELTZY.........
WTF? Maybe I'm suffering from memory loss but I don't remember anyone outright bagging him or calling Mrs Smeltz a slapper... We were all devastated that he moved on, and yes he got stick when he traveled back with GCU but that's what happens when the team you're playing for declares they're going to do the season unbeaten and then lose 6-0 to the 'potential wooden spooners'.
No timmy i think champs99 is right in one respect Shane has" moved on to better things".
He will be enjoying shopping and time at the beach.
Who wants to play in the preliminary final anyway.
Shane Smeltz the Gold Coast Judas got a lot of stick because of the way he left the club, and his comments about the club after leaving, and the sh*t he put us in when his dodgy agents Turkey dealing got exposed.
Shane Smeltz the All White is much loved and never gets any stick.
Edit: @ Timmy - I'm pretty sure there were some people calling Mrs Smeltz a slapper.aitkenmike2010-03-13 11:42:08

Who cares, Smeltz is rubbish anyway. HA!
Are you guys doing anything as far as flags/banners etc for this match? Would probably be more organised than the home support :)
