No mention of Gleeson?

Noted it will be live streamed....park the bus squad.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Gleeson is currently starting for Portland and they have injuries to their back up keepers so Portland are reluctant to release him. Schmid has approached him and he would have been in the squad but for this.

Is big Kevin going to start moaning and giving Schmid grief about handing out caps to to many players like he did previously...

I stand corrected. Serves me right for assuming the information in the NZF press release was accurate.

That's great news! I also thought it was not being streamed. I guess the behind closed doors thing must be venue cost related.

No captain named?

Michael Boxall is my pick. Would also explain his inclusion when other MLS players are left out.

Payne listed as a midfielder... curious to see if he slots into the CB role like he has for Suburbs... in saying that, it would leave us with a very small midfield with only Rufer the only one with a little size about him.

I wonder why Musa wasn't looked at - new club perhaps?

Yeah Musa an interesting omission given had a MLS contract only few months ago.

Michael Boxall maybe taking a risk going to Spain, given apparently under pressure to keep his starting spot at Minnesota, and will miss at least one MLS game on AWs duty.

Maybe the chance play with his younger brother, was too big an incentive to turn down. Good for him. Always seems a loyal, passionate AWs servant. Give him captains armband.

Also happy to see Adam Mitchell called up for a looksee. Hopefully a few of the Handy Prem guys pick up some overseas pro club interest, from this game.

Musa not considered due to injury - nothing to read into it at all.

I'd prefer Themi at CB - more grunt

If anyone can give me a quick rundown on the playstyles of de Jong, Kirwan, Nikko Boxall or Payne, it would be much appreciated!

Payne is decent on the ball. Often very angry man. Tries to play 1-2s with players but clearly not the same level as him. Will be interesting to see how he goes with the All Whites.

De Jong is pretty slow, quite predictable, has one foot and will get found out by smart defenders. I'd expect him back from Australia any time soon.

Just checking you know he's played in the NSW PL (and been in its team of the season once) for the past two years?

thank you! de Jong must be a pretty good finisher considering how many goals he has for suburbs though right? Or is it like Tade, where he has mediocre finishing but always finds the right positions/can dribble to get into them?

Happy to see no Dyer but is Boyd in the greater pool of players going forward? Hard for us to know from here, all we have is hearsay.

Saw an article talking to Buckingham and he said that the coach had spent some time in Europe recently and contacted a number of players. You can see the result of that with some of those guys playing in Europe being selected for the Canada game. I can only presume that Boyd was spoken to as well and whatever his response, it has not translated into him being named. So we are no closer to knowing what his thoughts are [Boyd] but can assume he has been spoken to and shared those with the coach. If he has said no - then I'm over him - lets move on and let the little cod rot in Portugal.

Considering the number of youth players getting a look in, McCowett from Auckland must consider himself unlucky.

My thoughts exactly as I read that article.
