is this going to be classed as a full AW international given that two closed door games the AWs played under RH were not?
Not too sure on this, but i think a way to tell is to see how many subs they use. More than three a team and the game won’t count for the FIFA rankings
Canada has added David Wotherspoon from St. Johnstone to the squad and called in young winger Kris Twardek from Carlisle United (on loan from Millwall) to replace Scott Arfield who pulled out with an injury.
If anyone can give me a quick rundown on the playstyles of de Jong, Kirwan, Nikko Boxall or Payne, it would be much appreciated!
Payne is decent on the ball. Often very angry man. Tries to play 1-2s with players but clearly not the same level as him. Will be interesting to see how he goes with the All Whites.
De Jong is pretty slow, quite predictable, has one foot and will get found out by smart defenders. I'd expect him back from Australia any time soon.
Just checking you know he's played in the NSW PL (and been in its team of the season once) for the past two years?
Andre has progressed nicely through NZ youth sides and his progress at Canterbury United in recent years was such that many in the know down here rated him highly and were picking him for future All Whites honours.
His first touch is good, he passes well, his positional sense is good and he gets in good positions to score goals around the box.
Andre I think was good enough for the Phoenix squad and perhaps displays that their scouting of local players has been poor.
When I talked to him, I found him a very humble, pleasant, intelligent young man with a good sense of humour too and up for a chat with supporters after a game.
Looks like John Herdman has called up his stongest possible squad with many experienced pros from as high a level as Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool FC and Besiktas in Turkey (two players) who have just come off UEFA Champions League games....Yikes !!!
Chris Wood's Burnley team mate Scott Arfield has pulled out due to injury though.
"Key returning players include Milan Borjan, Atiba Hutchinson, Dejan Jaković, Samuel Piette, and Tosaint Ricketts, all with 35 or more appearances at the international level, Cyle Larin of Turkish champions Beşiktaş JK, and Jonathan Osorio of MLS Cup champions Toronto FC.
Hutchinson, who plays alongside Larin at Beşiktaş JK, is a six-time Canadian Player of the Year and ranks tied for fifth all-time in Canadian international appearances. After leading his club to back-to-back SuperLig titles in 2015-16 and 2016-17, he helped Beşiktaş JK reached the Round of 16 in 2017-18 UEFA Champions League action.
The squad also includes three debutants getting their first call up to the Men’s National Team: centre back Derek Cornelius, fullback Marcus Godinho, and winger Liam Millar. Cornelius, Godinho, and Millar have all come up through Canada Soccer’s national youth program, with Millar the youngest at just 18 years old.
The squad features players coming in from club teams in Canada, USA, and across Europe. David Edgar has his first call up to the Men’s National Team since November 2016, having missed the 2017 season through injury."

That's not true. You can make more than 3 subs in any FIFA-recognised friendly
The match is listed on FIFA's website so it is a full international

Canada is missing four or five starters, but it is a stronger squad than I think we were anticipating under the circumstances. The misses will be felt most up front with Hoilett (Cardiff City), Cavallini (Puebla), Davies (Vancouver) and now Arfield all absent. It's a chance for others to impress and hopefully a chance to see some of the new faces.

This makes me grumpy now. I live in London and can get to the match in Spain very cheaply yet it’s closed door. Cheap skate Canucks and Kiwis, why not just play it here in London where loads of expats from both countries could attend.
from twitter
Bit of #AllWhites news - @CanadaSoccerEN tell me the stream they are hoping to have for Sunday’s game won’t be geoblocked.
Silly question but does anyone know if I'll be able to watch the game later on? Sometimes official streams (thinking of OFC TV for example) let you watch the game live but also upload the whole game after it ends so you can watch it later as it it was live...
The Canada Soccer youtube account leaves their streams up. So I am assuming they will be streaming the match and it will be there to watch later.
Thank you - not keen on a 0400 start if I can help it, living with a toddler and all :))
Where is the stream for later today?
Not sure if the New Zealand FA have anything planned, but Canada Soccer will have the stream on their youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/canadasoccertv
Set your broadcast expectations very low.
Boxall is captain. Struggled to see lineup as all names were out of position, pretty much...
Risking my sanity to see this. COYAW!
Payne, Brockie, Lewis, Doyle, Mike Boxall, Rojas, McGlinchey and Thomas some of the starters i saw
The wind is going to ruin the game, especially when you consider how open and exposed the stadium is
McGlinchey hits the post twice in a minute. Looking good for us, although we have got a strong wind at our backs. So far, so good!

I thought Thomas was injured
13 minutes in, the game has been completely New Zealand. Canada not even taking the ball into our half until 10 minutes in. McGlinchey hitting the post with a long range effort, the Boxall hitting the other post a minute later. This is some absolutely fantastic football by the way, the style’s so smooth to watch!
Starting lineup (Mitchell’s just been subbed off due to injury for Ingham - shame as he was extremely smart on the ball
Crocombe
Mitchell-M Boxall-Brotherton-Doyle
Lewis-Payne-Howieson-Rojas
McGlinchey
Brockie
Adam Mitchell off with an injury, looks to be upper right hammy. Replaced by Dane Ingham

Yeah my bad, just woke up so I have an excuse. And to dunnix, thanks I’ve updated the comment
Good work from Crocombe, cleaning up after himself after keeping out a low bobbling shot. Second save from very close range
McGlinchey, Mitchell, Howieson, Doyle have been the highlights. Rojas, Brockie and INGHAM with room to improve. Ingham’s marking is nonexistent
Heart in mouth moment - clearance bounces off ref's ass into path of Canadian attack. Crocombe saves, rebound is scored but flagged for offside
McGlinchey in a much freer role and it’s paying off. Best on the park?
Brockie's goal chalked off for offside :/
Brockie scores but is called for offside
If these conditions keep up for the second half, we are going to have to shoot everything from inside the box. Anything with a bit of distance or height just gets picked up by the wind.
Justin Gulley will be kicking himself, Ingham’s been nothing short of horrific.
Canada getting back into it and so far it’s a pretty even game full of attacks, not the same dreary shark we got served up in the last regime. Play like this against a Oceania team and clean up some of the sloppiness and it’ll be a riot
Can't do second half :/
Picking Sarpreet Singh to impress, Rojas to score. 1-1 FT
Let's go All Whites!
I missed the first half, so hoping the boys put on a show this 2nd half.
This is hard to watch. Full respect to any of you who are still watching and haven't gone back to bed.
Big crowd, is this at QBE ?? That looks just like the empty stand last weekend.
Its 0-0 at Half time in Pintar where the wind has really affected how both teams have played. We started off the dominant team but Canada have grown into it. I thought Adam Mitchell was good in the defence until his hamstring injury, he looked lively and kept the ball well. Dane Ingham has replaced him and has looked as though he would rather be playing FIFA 18 back at the team hotel, his marking has been very poor allowing Canada to stream down our right edge with Miller and Larin. Michael Boxall has looked very solid in defence as captain, and has had to cover Ingham's mistakes. Crocombe has done well in goal with an excellent double save being the highlight. Other players to have impressed me have been Payne,Miglinchey,Rojas and Lewis. Miglinchey hit the post twice inside a minute during the opening minutes while a good cross from Lewis was put in the back of the net by Brockie but the goal was adjudged to be offside. Good signs from us but Ingham needs to Wake up in the second half.
Pretty crap this half. 1-0 to Canada
Fk me dead pants goal.....
