We lost 1-0 (a pen) to Egypt in Cairo, March 2024.

By my count 4 starters from that game, ran on against Belgium in Seattle.

Mohamed Hany, Marwan Ateya, Emam Ashour, and Omar Marmoush.
Looks like a 5th player Hamdy Fathy who came off the bench back in 2024, started against the Belgians.
And a 6th Rami Rabia who started against us, came off the pine today

Our starting 11 in Cairo
Crocombe, Dane Ingham, Boxall, Pijnaker, Cacace (Captain), Clayton Lewis, Stamenic, Garbett, Singh, Max Mata & McCowatt

Only 6 of that 2024 team started against Iran today. 3 of the above not even in the WC squad.

They didn't have Salah in Cairo, but we didn't have Wood. It should again be a tighter match than the rankings show, and there will be less Egyptian fans in Vancouver than Iranians in LA. Believe.

10 mins highlights from that Cairo game. You may remember Pijnaker lunged in and gave away the pen, in one of those brain fades he seemed to do a bit too regularly back then. Mata with some big chances. Singh hit the woodwork from a great free kick.

To be fair Egypt also hit an upright from long range (Marmoush?).

But we were right in the game for sure. Maybe outside Salah and Marmoush, the other 9 on field matchups are very close, and we even edge some.
