Was always holding out that we may perhaps see a return of Brockie and Boyd for the qualy but I guess that ship has sailed now. Such a shame

Permalink Permalink

Sail must have had a stinker of a camp vs Solomons...maybe he stole Hudson's toast at breakfast or farted during a team meeting

Guessing we will line up like this?

Marinovic

Boxall Reid Tzimopoulos

Ingham Tuiloma McGlinchey Wynne

Barbarouses Wood Thomas

The Tuiloma/Musa at DM call is probably the tightest one, could always seem Themi pushed forward into the role with Dura slotting into the back 3?

Maybe you'd have Brockie coming off the bench if you were chasing a game, but he can't play wide and he's not going to start.

Thank you for that. Former GK myself so always interested to see about new ones coming through. We've always had reasonable keeper's over the years so this lad must be pretty good too. Also as the thread says, to get a 3 year contract at any top level club is awesome!

He was busy for the Under-20s still not sure how a month out from the biggest games in 4 years we're adding a new player...but you know... Hudson.

Given Woud's BMI, Hudson really had to pick him. No other option.

It will be a good test to see how we play against a fast and technical side prior to the qualifiers.

It seems weird also how many young keepers he has called just to sit on the bench: Sail, Crocombe, Tzanev and now Woud. Why would you do that when we already have Marinovic, Gleeson, Moss and Williams?

Lewis for Dyer youd hope by Nov and Roux back for Colvey. For me smeltz and patterson should be replaced by boyd and brockie

And Old for Brotherton.

Niko Boxall is having a great year as well in Finland and deserves a look in - probably too late for the qualifiers, but moving forward afterwards regardless if we qualify for the WC or not.

Conversely, if coaching just meant doing what the consensus of football fans thought was the obvious thing to do, they wouldn't need coaches at all, they'd just poll the forums for selections.

Williams and Moss both establishing themselves at new clubs, and with Moss new season about to start. Neither will unset Marinovic, so see Hudsons rationale to observe a younger keeper in training.

What if Marinovic breaks his arm in the next couple of weeks? Do you honestly think that not having the guy who's the actual number 2 (whoever that is) involved at this stage of the campaign is a good idea?

Jesus christ. Muto, Asano, Kubo, Inui... all i can say is Durante's gonna have a tough night. Their attack is absolutely stacked with short sharp nippy players, so Hudson better know what he's doing.

Japan are nippy - I would say South American sides are pretty similar in terms of technical ability, speed and pace. They like to play quick balls etc. Good for us and its good Japan have named a strong squad.

Haha yeah a little amusing calling the Japanese players nippy given the historical context of the usage of Nips.

so according to the article on stuff Hudson and his team every Monday in the morning have meetings for 5 to 6 hours talking about their players over the weekend.

What does everyone think they talk about for these 5-6 hours?

I will lead with the first two ideas.

1: Woods scored a good goal against Spurs today in the premier league. He must be in the team.

2: Reid played well today but was a bit ginger after that tackle in the second half. May mean he pulls out of the squad?

Does anyone know how much this phoney earns?

Maybe using the internet/fax etc to try and find some footage of your good mate Marinovic, when he was playing in that German 'pub league' AP.

Heavy sarcasm. Marinovic was too good a player to be playing 4th Div in Germany. But NZF coaching staff would spend a fair amount of time watching players in the lower profile leagues, not our big name players who are certain selections. As they should be doing, as their job.

I imagine Hudson and his staff would have watched footage of say someone like Nikko Boxall (a guy who must be on AWs fringes). They would and should know far more about what level he is consistently playing at, than any of us. Again that's their job, but do get feeling they are more organised in that regard than in Ricki's day. Though Herbert of course juggled two coaching jobs.

I think your in LaLa land about watching guys not in the Premiership/Championship.  The very fact that Dyer and Colvey are in this squad shows he pays bugger attention to what's really going on.  He should be talking to the likes of Boyd not saying pretty much that "he can't be arsed" as he implied in the media recently.

Incorrect, he initially selected  Stefan solely on a recommendation. Do you think they video these pub leagues? You are giving him too way too much credit and as scandavia is not even on his map with a pin I don't think he has discovered any video of Nikko
