what a weak penalty call.....seriouslly
All Whites vs Japan | Fri 6 Oct | 11:00pm | SS2
Dura yellow carded for whinging.
Good battling from Barbs to win the ball. Nice cross - good header.
that was lovely
Fair pen. But seen some kiwi football
First decent delivery... goal.
Genius!
HELL YEAH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
First decent delivery... goal.
Genius!
Spoiler alert! My stream is behind by a minute I was like WTF??
Mine is too, key is to not to refresh until something important happens haha
Seems NZ have come alive after the goal...about time....

Sorry lads... work out how far behind you are, refresh, wait that long, then read the page :P
u17's down 1 - 0 after 15.
Goal from a corner, good header across the goal from about 15 yards out. NIce finish, poof defending by Spragg.
Max Mata looking good.
Poor giveaway from Marco
Gee we're under the pump now
If we come away with a draw, I will still be happy
Apart from the penalty which is tough to avoid (and he very nearly did) I think Durante is having a stormer. All Japan the last 10-15 - not sure if coincidence that’s the same time as the changes? Themi had a mare in the box giving them the ball
Gee we're under the pump now
Japan have had the ball and we're sitting back but we're not letting them create anything. Only chances have been long shots, just need to stay organised as there will be a lot of this in the playoff.
Edit: gutted.
Poor clearance Tuiloma
Poor defending by Ingham... no pressure. Has allowed the crosses to come in.
Imagine if we were to go to Lima or Santiago or somewhere, and we get a lucky goal and Dura doesn't give away a penalty and we manage to defend like we are doing now... a girl can dream.
Wynton was bloody right about Marinovic, you know.

What did he say
can't see what Smeltz offers to the national team at this point in his career unfortunately.
Ingham has been running on empty for last 20 mins. Been skinned a few times.
Feel sorry for him. Still young - this will be a learning experience for him.

What did he say
I believe he coached him and set up his move to a German academy.
Didn't he say Wynton say Marinovic should've been in the 2010 WC squad?
What do we think? A lot of poor delivery, but good work for the goal
We have to sort out our right and left wing backs. Roux is an option or even a defender like Themi could do better than what we have at the moment
Encouraging performance. Reid seems to lift the entire side. However, I hate to be that guy, but there's a massive difference between a half strength Japan side in a friendly, and a SA side in a competitive fixture.
Need an alternative to Ingham. Hopefully Roux is back. Wynne in for Colvey probably. Question if and who Smith comes in for given he's had a couple of long stints out and looked underdone at confeds. Still would prefer a more tackling DM with Thomas moving more forward to replace Kosta.
I'm sure the south Americans will be fortified in the knowledge that our fifa world ranking is miles behind Venezuela, the chopping block in that qualifying group.

I thought Kosta was alright and with Thomas playing deeper for PEC Zwolle this season, I'd keep him there. Either bench McG or move him out to replace Kosta, but mobility in the middle is still going to be key so Tuiloma is probably our best option as a tackling DM.
Also can't see a major issue with Ingham, I doubt Roux would have done any better in the second half after the changes that Japan made. What Ingham has going against him will be lack of starts for the Roar, though Hingert was pretty rubbish tonight so he might get a couple of chances before the playoffs.

Semantics but Japan only had 4 starting changes from their last game against Aussie. And one of those was arguably an improvement with Kagawa coming in. Still yes world of difference between this friendly and an all stakes playoff series against SA side.
Encouraging result but we remain massive underdogs
Hudson's got the same result Ramon managed in the CWC against Kashima in 2016, with better players. Right down to the late winner for the Japanese side.

Is Ingham the Roar's second-choice right back?
Keep Thomas playing centrally and give him support with Musa and Themi in a DM role.
Get our WB's pushing high when on attach and have Wood + 1 playing up top.
After match comment that Ingham had no legs over the last 20 minutes - maybe Hudson was right?

After the performance of the Roar last night as well, they didn't seem fit or well prepared.

But he was picked this time round, so must have passed the fitness test. I think most people’s issue is the inconsistency of it (Dura was picked in the same squad and was unfit coming off an injury) and also the way Ingham was thrown under the bus publicly - it seemed like he was being made a scapegoat.
