For argument's sake - could we not call up both Smeltz and Brockie.

Smeltzy is getting on and hasn't set the world on fire in a while, but he is a known quantity. If we are calling players up based on experience and previous performances (e.g. Fallon), then I'd take Smeltz.

Agree that Brockie is in red hot form, but he has never been a goalscorer for the NT and if he is to play up front, we need him to deliver the goods - and I am just not sure he would do that.

I think Fallon is only being called up for his mana.

Why not just bring him along as a hanger on?

Certain reporters in Peru claiming Paolo Guerrero will not make the playoff games....

Also peruvian first choice  and most experienced CB Alberto Rodriguez is still injured (he would have been in charge of Wood). So is his first choice replacement Miguel Araujo.

So Peru have called 1.91 meter Adrian Zela as a replacement..He has good aerial game but is a donkey with the ball and very slow

Rory would probably beat him in a foot race...he is built like a tank...and moves about as fast as a tank

So Hudson is going to select a couple players he knows are not going to play because of what they bring to the team / dynamic.

I'm 50 / 50 on this.

Fallon will be great in the squad because of his sheer belief in himself and those around him, he will talk about winning and genuinely mean it, plus players can feed off his experience... all good.

We get an injury or two and then all of a sudden we have a very limited squad (more so than normal) and players who by Hudsons admission are not in the best 23 potentially get a run they are not up to... not so good.

I wonder how the non playing players feel about it?

It's all moot until squad is actually named.

But if Falloon ain't going to play any mins, just bring him as a mascot/motivational speaker - outside the actual squad.

Same with Ryan Nelsen as well for that matter if available. Agree having an experienced AW/ex AW who oozes self belief, around the squad - especially the younger kids - is a good thing.

Also yellow cards have been cleared, didn't think it would affect us much given they are favourites. Atleast it will be started as a fair match, I just hope they don't dive and foul as much as Mexico.

Winston might be crocked.

Time to utilise that depth, Anthony. I mean, it's not like Winston's played many games for you.

Is there anything planned pre-match for fans? I remember before the Bahrain game Wgton was party central with big-screens and events around. How about this year?

Couldn't we just bring Fallon along without calling him up to the squad, Hudson?

Unlikely 4-3-3

--------- [Barba] ------------ [Wood] ----------- [Rojas] -----------

-------- [Thomas] ------ [McGlinchey] ------ [Tuiloma] ----------

---- [Doyle] ------- [Reid] ------------- [Dura] --------- [Roux] ----

Likely 5-3-2

Im thinking Tony Robbins....

its a good article but I just find this statement slightly inaccurate "Peru aren't going to pass New Zealand to death."

Peru is a passing team, their historical essence is of being a passing team. The current coach has been praised by the Peruvian media for bringing back the natural passing game of the Peruvians (well known in South America).

historical comparison old Peru vs current Peru

The key for Hudson is to shut down Yoshimar Yotun Left CM..he is the one that starts the plays and moves the ball around. If he plays well Peru play well. Colombia shut him down and Peru struggled to string passes together.

The Peruvian left side is the strong part of the team. The combinations between Trauco (left back), Yotun (LCM), Cueva (AM), Flores (LAM) is very good. Andre Carrillo is more of a one man attack on the right, for two reasons, 1) he will take the defender on always and 2) the right back Aldo Corzo is terrible in attack...

And that's the side that Dane Ingham's playing on. If Ingham starts, then all I can say is enjoy Russia :) cheers for the info!

That likely team is terrifying. I would be surprised if Roux or Doyle started.
