Anyway, just wanted to say that I hope the AWs don't fall into the trap of playing defensively like Honduras have. You need to go out and try and score that away goal early and pile all the pressure back on the Peruvians.

It will be a great game and I think you guys have a real chance to get through to Russia.

The defensive setup works great until it's broken...once the defensive team has to chase the goal it can go quite badly

saw the last goal...how come it was not a red card and a pk? Also was the first goal
a deflected own goal?

Australia could have added a 4th at the end...

haven't seen it but laws changed last year around red cards and penalties. If DOGSO and challenging for ball no red card.

Can't believe I actually think we could win this. I thought it would just be another painful playoff to watch like Mexico in 2013. If we manage to get to half time withouth conceding, then we have serious chances of getting at least a draw. COYAW

Hudson has said in Peru media the goal is to defend until the last fifteen, although that might be mind games.

Peruvian here, looks like we will put the offensive minded Advincula at right back replacing Corzo, We may also add Ruidiaz on the attack, removing Yotun. Though this will be a a better offensive set up, it also opens up opportunities for the All whites if they can contain the Peruvian attack.

Confirmed, Advincula will start at RB for Corzo, Ruidiaz will start upfront and Yotun will go to the bench.

Glad to hear Peru have set themselves up to be more attacking - the reality is, as a team we were always going to be set up and more likely to score on a counter than through a flowing passing move.

This should create some gaps for us to exploit, and if their RB pushes up as much as expected it will create space for Marco or Kosta, whoever is starting to utilise.

Despite the positive intent of the move by Peru, it is a much riskier set up for them.

Unfortunately it is true, I have seen videos of it, more of a lights display than noise but the intent to disturb was there.

The Marriot does have double glazed windows.

Every country has some unruly people.  I have heard people here justify it saying "you get what you ask for" referring to comments by NZF boss.

Only 7 hours to go...

We had a reasonable amount of success overloading our left flank in the first leg anyway, so yeah, with a more attacking RB we might have much more space to work with. I expect Thomas to have a massive game on that side of the park

Yep, I went into the Wellington game resigned to not making it, so was just there to enjoy the game and atmosphere with no expectations, but now I have hope, and I don't like it.

I had a dream Chris scored at the 17th minute, nice header glanced into the left. If this doesn't happen according to my prophecy then we are going to be the next Honduras.....

Having to work from home and have no SKY this arvo, where do we reckon is the best/most reliable place for a stream to watch online? I'd take a potato quality stream that wont crash over a vulnerable HD one.

Got to work.

Turned pc on.

Let me just complete my analysis of our employees' engagement surv......

Fudge that! I can't bloody wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very worried about the home advantage after seeing Honduras crumble in Sydney but we knew that playing in Lima was always going to be a tough gig. Just hope what I've read about the players truly believing in the abilities is the case. At the end of the day it's 11 v 11 and they can hold their head high after Saturday's performance. We need another 90' like that with a bit more ball possession and a few more shots on goal!

I think we are a different team to Hondorus - no disrespect to them, but the way the coach talked about espionage etc etc, it sounded defeatist from the start.

Nothing like that has come from our camp.

Iluvnix estimated 30 or so when she was on Morning report with John Campbell (and where 2nd Best gave an even more convoluted answer to a question than most politicians Campbell interviews would!)

As much as I disliked many of Andy Martin's comments and him as a person (generally speaking), I think that flying fudging fighter jets over the opposition team hotel is taking it to a whole different level......

Don't want to start the debate again, we'll have plenty of time to do that whether we go to Russia or not - I just want our boys to win today!

I have heard people here justify it saying "you get what you ask for" referring to comments by NZF boss.

That's a bit pathetic imo. He asked for a hostile environment in NZ, which he didn't get, one single bit. The only thing that could be construed as hostile was not allowing the peruvians to bring in musical instruments, but this clearly isn't retaliation for that. We even had our annual legal fireworks period in the week before the game, so there were plenty around, yet no one did anything like this.

I think the precedent set by NZ's lack of hostility around the first leg totally overrules this justification.

Anyways, who cares, this will just make it sweeter if we win. And if we lose, meh, 10th beats 122nd, slow clap for that then.

More shots at goal are needed for that than in the game at Westpac Stadium, and it is a valid comment for the All Wites too!

Anyone know much about the ref for this one? He's going to be under a lot of pressure and intimidation from the crowd so hopefully he can remain neutral.

Mindgames. That was one of the reasons that Australia, when contesting the Uruguay playoffs in 2005, stayed in Buenos Aires until the game day and only then crossed over to Montevideo. That was the lesson learned from the 2001 farce when they were similarly "welcome" with noise and mindgames.

We are simply a less worldly WC competitor than Australia and are only now learning the same lessons, especially that our NZF is no FFA when it comes to equipping us for a WC campaign (charter flights etc).

I expect that Peru will capitalise on our tiredness and will hit us with late second half subs that did not travel to Wellington, if they have not scored by then.

I'm not complaining about anything the Peruvians are doing tbh, their footballing culture and supporter culture is hewn from the South American competitions from the National team level down. If NZ were Chile or Argentina, they'd be getting exactly the same serve from them right now.

Martin was a dipshark by highlighting their hostility, knowing it would get picked up by their media and spun into a huge story. It also lets them say that 'well, you asked for it'.

He was an even bigger dipshark asking New Zealand, a country with a footballing culture that is barely out of the petri-dish, to animate itself into some sort of impersonation of that South American rivalry and hostility that accompanies the game.

If they'd come over and NZ had presented the friendly, open, cheerful face it did to Peruvians over last weekend - then our reputation would have been a lot better in Peru than it probably is. The supporters undid a lot of the damage Martin did last weekend, shame we couldn't stop him stopping them bringing in instruments.

AND THEY'D STILL HAVE DONE EVERYTHING THEY ARE DOING.

Jets flying by, native healers putting curses, fireworks. I bet the players are loving this - it's 100% proper do or die stuff.

Vamos Nueva Zelanda!

You'd hope that NZ would have the highest quality ear plugs (the sort where they actually take a cast of your ear canal) and not the things that you get from the pharmacy.

Yeah, honestly I don't think the NZ players will be getting upset by it, they would of been expecting this sort of thing and are probably finding it quite entertaining and an interesting experience. If anything it's good for the coverage of the game in NZ as it gets the media and non football fans more into it.
