You'd think Wood will get a run, but probably not a start.
Mulligan and Boyens are probably at risk after the last two games.
Paston has to come in, just to build up to the WCQs.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Oughton in for Mulligan and James for Brockie. Sigmund maby for Boyens? I reckon moss will keep his place and depending on the games result, ie loss/draw paston might start the last game
Plus; the assistant ref for the second half to get his second start

Can't take SA lightly. They were all over the Iraqis and should have won the match.

Totally agree. They will be very hard to beat. Spain took its foot off the accelerator pedal today.
Could have been 10+

ESPN commentators (streaming) were saying that despite our heavy loss that we are equal favourites to go through with Sth Africa, apparently Iraq look very average!
So this is arguebly our biggest game.

Even a draw would be a great result for us with iraq to play

Haven't South Africa dropped a number of top players due to them having bad attitudes?

They must have been smoking something up there in the box, coz the preview i saw last week(for winning) had NZ at 500:1 on winning and SA at a mere 50:1, Iraq were about 80:1. I realise thats for winning the tournament, but the odds would line up similarly for getting out of the groupSo this is arguebly our biggest game.

one guy i think, kant find anything on it though?

That would be right, we are about a 1 in ten chance of beating SA.
Better than the no chance we had today

Benni McCarthy is the main one, also an Ajax Cape Town striker whose name slips my tongue was also released from the confed squad due to attitude problems. Benni is the main one, would have been first choice with Bernard Parker.
I am interested to see how South Africa line up if they use both Teko Modise and Steven Pienaar.

Would anyone know South Africa's league standard/quality?

It is reasonable. The majority of South Africas squad plays in their league.
I think the talent is not bad, but the style of play in South Africa is not very effective. Too much silly stuff on the ball that has no effective results (in the league) called Diski. It is getting rich though, Kaizer Chiefs are building their own stadium very similar to Arsenals new stadium ~60k seater.
They mess around with the ball thinking they are Brazilians in those leagues but a few pacers through the centre forwards but not much in the way of a solid targetman (from what I saw in the other group match ie the best 30 minutes they played in the second half although I can be wrong cause of the brief look) so can be close down easy.
But more of this as it happen in the South Africa-Iraq match:
84th minute LOL!!!. I have never seen that. A beautiful cross by South Africas Siboniso Gaxa to the far post, its headed past the keeper by a South African winger but the ball hits the butt of Bernard Parker (a South African forward) just before the ball is about to cross the line. Ill say it right now: One of the all-time great soccer bloopers ever. It just made one of the least remarkable matches Ive ever seen to forever memorable. Incredible.

Very good point.
Saffas are favourites, but a much less daunting task for the All Whites than facing La furia roja.el grapadura2009-06-15 18:00:22

seems like a pretty cool atmosphere , seems like a whole lot of pissing around on the ball tho imo!!!

Draw against SA and win against Iraq and we have a GREAT chance of going through.
You know we belong together...

Even two draws give us a chance on goal dif, hope the Spanish go full throttle against Bafana Bafana

South Africa looked pretty good in the match against Iraq, they just couldn't finish. I still think we have a good chance though, given some of the passing against Spain was quite attractive to watch and we created a number of chances. South Africa favourites to win, but I'd give us a 33% chance of pulling off a draw or victory. Vs Iraq I'd say it's closer to a 50% chance.
As for lineup changes - the most important for me would be to put Sigmund on for Boyens, assuming he's fit. Paston in goal would be good in terms of the build up for the playoff. Christie better not be starting...

And if we do nick a result against the Saffas confidence should be sky-high going into the Iraq game.
You know we belong together...

I'm more worried about the Iraq game in all honesty. To beat a top Asian side will give our lads massive confidence coming into the World Cup qualifier.
Having said that I know a number of arrogant South African's who could be bumped down a notch if NZ can beat them.

Check the second and fourth angle, looks like the ball is going straight across the face of the goal.
I'm convinced it is missing.

Beating Iraq won't prove anything. They may have been Asian chapms last year, but are not in the top 16 this year.
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Jamesnz - Christie did a sh*t load better than Brockie!
But hopefully neither start and James gets a run.

We had chances against Spain? Attractive passing?
Are you sure you're thinking of the right team? We wore white if that helps...

We absolutely had chances. Not a lot, but definitely more than I would have expected prior to the match. And yeah, when we had the ball (which to be fair was reasonably rare), we passed it around far better than any All Whites match (bar italy) that I've seen recently. As I've repeatedly said, that match left me optimistic that we can pull off an upset in one of the next two matches, and have a chance in the WC playoffs.
To those that think Iraq is crap... you should remember that they did manage to beat Australia in the first round of Asian qualifying. I watched them play in Brisbane last year and although they don't dominate matches, they looked dangerous on the counterattack. Will be a tough match for us, but if Elliot can continue like he did against Spain, I'm looking forward to it for sure. I'll definitely be making a bet on the AWs (foolish or not).

They are still a stronger side than us, and if we have any chance of making the semis we need a result in that game. You know we belong together...

Draw against SA and a win against Iraq and we ARE through (assuming Spain win all matches, which which is currently the safest assumption in Football) table would be -
Spain 9
NZ 4
SA 2
Iraq 1
2 draws puts everyone (except Spain) on 2 points, so would be on goal difference, and i'm not sure Spain are going to put more than 5 past both or either of the other teams.
commentator on the BBC near end of Spain match was tipping us as the 2nd team from the group, a bit surprised that he said it, but was very nice to hear someone that wasn't a Kiwi say it. (the pundits in the studio did have a bit of a chuckle at his opinion though
