If we want the national team to become more competitive, then these crowd numbers show that there is a lot of growth needed right around the country. I'm not sure whether these were a success or not. If the goal is to get sell out crowds then playing just one of these would have been more successful. Games should only be scheduled on weekends for travel, the social occasion and getting families with youngish kids along. Christchurch should get the next one. There needs to be a bit more exposure before the game as well to help ticket sales with the non-hardcore fan section, the entire marketing process of NZFA needs to be looked at.

I'm not really familiar enough with the North Shore, to know whether that is a problem or not. Location is a key thing, the old Athletic park was terrible. Are there bars around Albany for the pre/after match? Iv'e never really had problems getting around Auckland at night though, it's only during rush times when the traffic clogs up.

I don't think these were disasters though. NZ were competitive, should have really beaten Honduras, and will improve from playing these games. The public did get to see the team and players play twice and they got close to breaking even. And since we were getting the european players in it would have seemed a shame not to schedule a second game.

More central. I know that it's closer to where you live, but NHS is on the fringes of even the Shore, and therefore out in the backblocks of new glorious SuperCity. Imagine if the RoF was in Waikanae, what Nix crowds would be like.

From my place it takes about the same time to drive to Hamilton as it does to North Harbour

Where I and about 200,000 other people live. Eden Park is about as good as it gets when it comes to central stadiums in Akl.

Waikane doesn't have a population of 220k like the Shore

This is both an amusing and an interesting fred.

Back in the days of the Super 12 I went to a few cake tin games from Palmy Nth.  There are also some Nix die hards who trek from Whangas, Palmy and beyond regularly.

Personally I don't think a Waikanae venue (the Ring of Sand?) in terms of location would impact on crowds IF the brand of football and "entertainment" value appealed to the punter.

There is also a mental block in terms of distance/venue.  e.g. if the venue was in Paraparaumu most people would think of that as "up the road/train track", but Otaki only another 10 mins drive away might be a bit far.

Anyway seeing as how there is a bit of angst over location and ease of access in Akld I now think:

ChCh >> Akld => Wgtn>>>>>>>>>>>>>>RoD (PNth)

That being said, while Auckland won the quantity race by a nose, Wellington won the quality race by a country mile. So I'll take that
Both Auckland and Wellington had decent crowds. What is it with this everyone vs Auckland, Wellington is so f**king amazing their sh*t dont stink mentality.

So acknowledging the success of both cities is "everyone vs Auckland" and "zomg Wellington"? Especially given that I specifically congratulated Auckland? And didn't make a single disparaging comment about the city? Wow, hate to see how'd you react if someone actually criticized Jafaland. Don't get so defensive just because I celebrated the success of my hometown more than that of yours.

Didnt mean to single you out, responding more to the collective of people that everytime hear auckland and football in the same sentence sigh and carry on about things they know very little about.

The fact this is true is shameful for Auckers and Wellywood. Challenge to Christchurch to get the same amount to the Adelaide game, Terry needs the money to pay his rates.

So when England sell out Wembley [or whatever its called now] the whole crowd have come from North London? NHS is fine as a location, especially for a weekend afternoon or night game. You'd get there by car from Papakura in under an hour. You'd spend more time in the carpark at the end than it would take you to drive home. I think NZF have to appreciate that it is on the outskirts of populated Auckland and the free public transport thing is a must. Also question the need for pubs/clubs etc, a lot of the crowd wouldn't be worried about that. Stay in the city, take the free bus to and from and hit the town when you get back.

Think that the question mark on the end would suggest he's asking a, somewhat sarcastic, question , rather than stating it as fact.

Lets take the ASB home game crowds over a full season to determine which centre holds the All Ahites games. You can combine the 2 Auckland based teams and they still wouldn't get near enough to hold a game.
Christchurch first in line followed at the bottom by Wellington.
Gives Napier and Hamilton a shot.

The two Auckland teams get the best crowds with the exception of the odd game at Chch. Wellington get fuck all crowds as does everyone else.

Three for me, and two for them.

Depends when your snapshot is.  First two or three seasons that was reversed, and Waitak only get a crowd when the play City.

Seriously, where are you getting your facts from for the ASB premiership...? The crowd numbers are often just done by the online reporter of the day who is a club member so always thinks of a number and doubles it...
Ive been to every ground over the last 4 years or so of the NZFC and would say as far as crowds go the order would be

Auckland City
Waitakere
Wellington
Christchurch
Manawatu
Waikato (bigger when at Ngaruawahia - admittedly free entry and were top of the league )
Otago

But to be honest apart from ACFC and the occassional game elsewhere the crowds at these games are very poor.

It's perfect. They park their houses in the paddock next door.

Seriously this is rubbish- The Ring of Fire hands down kicks the arse of the North Harbour staidum.

As a parochial Aucklander...wouldn't mind maybe seeing a game at Eden park but that'd be fairly unlikely I guess....and don't know what the new one is like, didn't get down the other week...
