I have zero stats to back this up, but i am pretty sure that last weekend aukland set a record for the smallest crowd ever to watch David Bekham play as a proffessional football player. Congraulations, guys

that is a big call to make. I doubt that would have been the smallest crowd EVER to see him play.

Very unlikely, especially not since he was sent out on loan by Sir Alex Ferguson early on in his career, think it was to Preston??

Lowest crowd in NZ anyway.

in fairness to Auckland i think that was probably also a record for the most meaningless game of football David Beckham has ever played in his professional career. Im suprised that got as many as 16k for that event - at that price.

what do you mean pointless? Both tvnz and nzpa said it was good match practice for his loan period in serie A, and who are we to disbelieve their football coverage?

or you may say, smallest crowd to ever watch him play in the Southern Hemisphere. Not certain obviously but more likely.

Perhaps a record for strong feelings of ambivalence?

Love this comment "I wanted to bring back Beckham and the LA Galaxy next year but the Auckland Regional Council jumped on it... and killed the moment,"

Dead right they killed it. I wouldn't have payed to see the LA Galaxy again even if they were playing the Phoenix. Gets a bit boring...

But would pay a lot ot see them play Celtic or a big UK team.. Maybe we would have a chance against Blackburn at the moment..?
