Serbia have a very powerful midfield with the likes of Inter's Stankovic, so defensively our mid field could be under the pump a bit. A guy like Brown would be the obvious choice to combat them. But without Brown things look a little light. It would seem that Barron is the next cab off the rank.

Weemac is a good player but to me he is physically too light to play the holding defensive midfield role. It is a shame that Vicilich is probably a bit slow now for midfield. He has played DM quite a bit. It would be good to have an old head in that position.

I think we will be in for a tough tough game against Serbia. I saw most of their WC qualifying games....they topped their group quite easily. They are a physically big, powerful side with some very skilful players. They are ranked 16th in the world and deserve that rank.

If we can keep within 2 goals of them then it would be an OK result. A 4 goal loss would not necesarily be the end of the world except for the reaction of the "band wagoniing" NZ sports press.

From what has been coming out of camp regarding injuries to Vicilich, Bertos etc and wanting to try some of the fringe guys I suspect this might be the team.

                      Paston
   Reid            Nelsen          Smith
Brockie   Elliot   Barron    Locky
           Smeltz
      Wood   Fallon

I don't think Ricki should, or will, get experimental.  The first XI are the guys who will be playing the bulk of the time, barring injury, and they hardly play together.

Ricki will play them as often and for as long as possible with all the warm up matches.  The time for experimentation with the starting line-up is gone - that was Mexico.

I'd go with this but maybe look at Trying smith in where Lochhead is? He seems to have a good delivery on him.  And not sure about Wood just yet, I'm a huge fan, but not sure where he fits with our front three? And in a way, I think maybe this front 3 will get better and better. Although I guess it would be Smeltz dropping out based on the last game

According to this site: http://www.skytv.co.nz/tv-guide.aspx

The game is live at 4am Sunday on SS3 (as said above), then there is a replay at 6am on SS2, and again at 3pm on SS2. I haven't looked any further down the line than that.

Is the 6am replay in HD?

Yup, Sky web shiite has the broadcast from 4 to 5.30 am sunday. So whats going on?
Does this mean the game will only be partly covered?

Also there is now no replay. I suspect they might dump the AW's vs Australia replay on Sunday but who the ferk knows with Sky.,

I rang the Sky program help desk and spoke to some idiot in Bangladesh or Bombay.....I said " when are you going to replay the All Whites vs Serbia game" and he replied......what sport is this. I said its football and he said...." Ahhhhh the World cup does not start until later in June"
Jeeeesuuuuuuuuss......why do we bother with Sky. Don't they follow the sports media. The Aw's are the main story at the moment. Surely we should get better service than this......we are trying to plan our weekend....FFS
End of RANT.

My line-up for Serbia, as it seems likely we'll be going 3-4-3.

                              Paston

             Reid            Nelsen          Vicelich

Bertos         Elliot        Barron/WeeMac      Lochhead

                                Smeltz

                     Fallon                Killen

Personally, though, I'd like 4 backs with Smith out on the left but what can you do.

He always looks like he's about to f**k someone up. He is a natural born badass.

Me and my mate always talk about how he could knock out any coach in the league with one punch easy.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Yeah, I think Smith should definately be in there, and it's probably a case of where he plays best, in Ivan's spot or Lochhead's, and who is more important to the side.
I'd also have Barron in there instead of McGlinchey, he could definately step up into Brown's role and we probably won't notice a massive difference.
You know we belong together...

wtf?

Two changes will be forced on Herbert. Vice-captain Tim Brown is recovering well after surgery on a broken shoulder sustained in the trans-Tasman friendly while Monday nights goal scorer Chris Killen has returned to the UK on a fleeting visit to get married.

Shame Killen isn't playing. I hear it's Edinburgh he's getting married at. He used to play there of course...

On bookface there's a post from All Whites about the 11 questions with Killen.  And a rather peeved comment that his fiance and child probably don't consider him single!!!

Do you think that his girlfriend saw that interview and demanded that he get his ass over to Scotland and make an honest woman of her right the hell now?

We are carefully considering throwing open the doors of Fever Towers on Sunday morning to anyone needing a place to watch the game.

It's a 5 minute walk from Lambton Quay.

God help us all.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

On the basis that they broadcast the AW vs Aussie game, I emailed Prime TV and suggested they should broadcast the AW vs Serbia match on Monday - use the home shopping time slot in the morning.
Maybe a few more emails to Prime might help the cause?
