Just saying thanks to Bertos, Smeltz & Ricki today.

My Missus, 6 year old & 3 year old  & Phoenix supporters went over to Whitby's Endeavour Park to watch the Public training session.

Bertos made my 3 year old's life by giving him a high 5, and he was still talking about it when he went to bed. Smeltz was good humored enough to laugh when their Mum identified Smeltz as the 'one we were booing' v GCU.

Also, Ricki chatted to all three, given they turned out all wearing their shirts & scarves. Great to see them engaging with the young fans.

Sadly, Paston was in no mood to join and was a bit abrupt. - Disappointing for a six year old who already wants to play in goal.....

They're training again tomorrow in Public at whitby- stuff.co.nz article has times/dates.

Pastons had a fight with his husband,is why wellyphoenixfan hasnt been posting in here either. Trouble in paradise? I think so.

But good on the AWs for making your kids day   is great they can take the time out despite their being so much pressure on them,in what must be an intense (but enjoyable) week for them.

Never actually held a conversation with him but the kids have got up close several times for autographs etc and he seems a generally nice guy. Maybe an off day - getting a bit nervous now that the squad is assembled and training.

Hopefully your 6 y.o. can bounce back (my lot usually do - it's their old man who finds it hard!).

zonk, don't be too harsh on the guy.  Remember this is the biggest game of their lives and each player has to prepare in the way that gets them best ready for the night.  Paston is just coming back from injury as well.  If they are keen to get involved with the pubic great but there is a lot of pressure on them

Sorry to hear that the young 'uns didn't get quite the interaction they were hoping for. Mark Paston is usually v good .but as others have said, it was a particularlyl key practice for him so would be more on edge than usual?? Best of luck to your budding GK!
