We might finally get to see another Kiwi in the Champions League.

Could be good for NZ football. Nice forum by the way. I followed the old Knights one and this one since it started. Really impressive. Just lay off Jeremy Christie!!

From The Scotsman:

Celtic set to sign Killen as Cardiff miss out

EWING GRAHAME

CELTIC'S rebuilding programme continued last night as they moved to snap up Hibernian striker Chris Killen on a Bosman free transfer.

The New Zealand international was the Edinburgh club's top scorer with 15 goals from 24 appearances before a snapped Achilles tendon in a Scottish Cup tie at Aberdeen in January ended his season.

Cardiff City seemed certain to land his signature yesterday but Celtic manager Gordon Strachan moved in at the last minute to bolster the champions' squad.

Killen, who has 13 goals and 21 caps for the Kiwis, was signed from Oldham Athletic by former Hibs manager Tony Mowbray in January of last year.

He passed a medical in Glasgow last night and his arrival, along with the 750,000 signing of Scott McDonald from Motherwell, is likely to place a question mark over the future of Celtic strikers Kenny Miller and Maciej Zurawski.

Killen said recently he would have been content to remain at Easter Road but was offered only a one-year contract while recuperating from his injury and now rejoins former team-mates Scott Brown, Derek Riordan and Gary Caldwell at Celtic.

He had been expected to join Cardiff City and spoke on Monday in glowing terms about the Welsh club.

Killen said: "I've spoken to Cardiff and hopefully everything will be sorted this week. I still have my medical to come, but we have agreed personal terms. I want to be part of exciting times there.

"I came to Cardiff a couple of months ago and met the manager, players and staff, and liked what I heard. I saw the plans for the new stadium and the training ground, I want to be a part of those ambitious plans."

However, the player has had a change of heart and is set to remain in Scotland.

Realistically Killen was never going to come home... too much of a point to prove in the UK.

I don't even think that it is staying there to prove a point - he is at the peak of his career (what is he - 26, 27?) and playing in a top european league and the Champions League.  Why would he want to come home?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Brilliant for NZ football, and of course he will get game time. He might also be able to convince that other Kiwi playing for Celtic (that really young one) to play for the All Whites.

Who was the other Kiwi in the Champions League, was it Wynton Rufer? If Arsenal don't win the Champions League hopefully Celtic will. And I think we should lay off Jeremy Christie aswell, if he reads some of the comments on yellowfever about him it would be enough to make any player lose their confidence.

Danny Hay played at the Bernabeau for Leeds, Wynton was long gone by the time it became a league rather than the European Cup.

Prolific scorer.
Ricki was right, "get yourself to a professional club", get some experience, improve the overall quality of the AW squad.

As long as Killen stays injury free he should get game time, its not easy to find a prolific goal scorer, Celtic havn't had one since larsson. Until he got injured he was outscoring any of Celtics other strikers. Yeh its hard to believe now that Danny Hay once played Champions League football.

Who cares mate. If he can't handle it as a professional sportsman then he shouldn't be there. This is nothing compared to other parts of the world we should have the right to criticize who we want, when we want.

Three for me, and two for them.

he'll get game time...proven goalscorer in the comp should mean he'll get reasonable amounts

on the note of it being hard to think of Hay playing Champions League i agree, its almost unbelievable now, but, look at the club; Leeds is really going somewhere

He'll get game time - especially in the SPL, where he is a proven performer. he was leading the golden boot race half way thru the season before he got injured - and that was with Hibs players around him - I'm sure he can do at least as well with the kind of service he can get at Celtic Park.

Narrow escape for Killen too, by all accounts.
He could so easily have ended up playing for Scumdiff.

Killen scored 15 goals in the league in a shortened season for Hibs. Celtics top scorer was Vennegoor who has been capped by Holland and was a part of the Dutch squad which featured at the 2006 World Cup. A title-winner and Champions League semi-finalist with PSV, the striker finished Celtic's double-winning season as top scorer with 18 goals, despite being hampered by injury.

So I'd say Killen is warranted in believing he'll be a starter at the Celts.

Just because he is a professional sportsman doesn't mean he can cope better than everyone else when people are far too critical of his performances. I mean, don't get me wrong, criticism is necessary in some areas, but the amount of criticism he gets is ridiculous. Hopefully, if he has read some of the forums on yellowfever, he wont lose confidence, but rather have a point to prove in the A-League.

Hope so.  Also, Romanos on Telfer's show this week said Killen will be playing in the 'Champions Trophy' as well.  Sportman of the Year perhaps?

New Celtic signing Chris Killen says he's been told the club is about to offload several of it's current strikers.

There has been speculation that Celtic will sell Scotland international Craig Beattie, after the arrival of Killen took the number of senior strikers in the squad to seven. Killen said: "They've put one guy on the transfer list and I've been told a few more are on the way out but it's down to me, I've got to earn my place."

looks like he'll get a better chance of game time

Yeah hopefully he does get a run, he hasn't really had a chance in their friendlies so far.
It seems Aussie Scott Mcdonald has the inside running to start at the moment alongside  Venegoor(sp) but it would be good to see what he is capable of at this level!!
Also will watch with intrest on sunday, Galaxy playing Chelski.
