To say that Killen is the poor mans Smeltz is a little silly. Although I have always thought Smeltz had potential, realistically this is his first really succesful season. Killen seems to have a reasonable scoring record wherever he goes. A case in point...compare their goalscoring records for NZ. Another good season from Smeltz next year might convince me otherwise.

Bang on.  I fully believe that Killy will become NZ's greatest ever striker (I would say he's fourth right now behind Covs, Summner and WR).

Greater than Wynton Rufer? IMO not a chance of that happening. Second best, maybe.

Yeah, in respect to playing for NZ, but not in overall reputation.

I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories but the situation with our top class professional in the UK is getting beyond a joke.

Herbet is 'frustrated', i bet that is putting it mildly, i'd absolutely f^*%@#$ s&*%%#$.

Anyway back to the conspiracy theory.

Nelson and mrs decide to have baby, thinking about timing they get the football schedule out and decide nine months before the world cup qualifiers would be about right!!, Hughes gives him a bonus!

At least killen came for the last game but two long trips close together na too much hassle i'll just pull up a little lame and have the physio send me home to bed!!

Anyway that's all bull$%^ but i think we need a good conspiracy theory around this.

I know this is cutting your nose off to spite your face, but if Nelson is trying not to play for the all whites how about not selecting Nelson when he does want to play!

that should result in many angry retorts??

No. Danny Hay played in a semifinal with Leeds against Barca at the Bernabeau back in 2000/2001. He played about two minutes at the end when Lucas Radebe got injured.

No, the game against Barcelona (at Nou Camp by the way, Real Madrid play at Santiago Bernabeu!) was in the group stages with Barca winning 4-0. Leeds did make the semi-finals of the Champions League that season (2000/2001) but were knocked out by Valencia 3-2 on aggregate (2-0 to Leeds at Elland Road, 3-0 to Valencia at Mestalla) at that stage. Hay's brief appearance at Nou Camp was the only one of his career.
Werder Bremen may well have also progressed to the stage of last 16 or last 8 when Wynton Rufer was there, but I can't be sure of this off the top of my head. Might look it up later.

It's true that killen in this season it's non doing enough goals,

but in the stathistics he playd  523 minuts(not a lot) and he signed 1 gol,and he were unlucky agnaist montherwell...
mc donald played 1758 minutes and vennegoor 1442

so he don't play enough for the moment...

Yeah I don't think he'll be at Celtic for much longer. The damn Aussie has over shadowed him.

Great! in Celtic-STmirren 1-1

mc donald and vennegoor was useless...
Mc donald had a period of terrible form at the begin of the season, but he can play well wnd sign goals for all the season, now he's going under with the performances and vennegoor too,
Strachan likes killen and I think that in this periode he can point on  him.

LOL just because Mc donald and vennegoor had 1 bad game u seem to write them off. As if Killen would do any better. The whole team looked tired - prob from Champ/League fixtures.

In saying that, IF Mc D gets rested then its a good opportunity for Killen to shine/get some form happening. And hopfully score some goals.

Not for only one game
for example look in milan-celtic ok it was a difficultous macth but mc donald do anything
in celtic-iverness 1-1 vennegoor didn't played well
And olso in celtic-shaktar 2-1 the goals were done by jarosik and donati and vennegoor didn't do anything
if you look the strike partner vennegoor-mcdonald didn't do a lot
they loosed 2-0 by hearts and drawed two not difficultous macthes

It's not just about scoring goals... yes..scoring goals is what a striker has to do but it also includes holding up the ball, etc etc etc.

VOH and Skippy are playing well and are not off form.

Well said convict, 100% agree that the lads were most likely tired from CPL but also from the schedule they have had recently.

Killen will get his chance. Don't you worry.

And its not great that WE drew with St Miren

I really hope he doesn't move permanently, he's young and playing with top class players is probably doing him a lot of good. Its possible that if he moves to the Championship it could be a step backwards in his career though the game time will do him good. If he's really not in Strachan's plans right now I'd rather see him go somewhere on loan until he's ready or one of the more prominent strikers gets injured or hits a rough patch.

They don't have much money atm but it looks like they could do with a striker with a good eye for goal. Is he up to that standard yet though?

I doubt if he would make it into a NZFC team.
He cant holdup the ball and needs pin-point passes/crosses for him to atlest try to score.

And I suppose you think your boy Macdonald is amazing and can do no wrong? Killen is of a much higher standard than any striker in the A-League, though there are players in the league with more potential.

Well, when Killen played alongside Smeltz against Fiji, he looked a decidedly poorer player.
John Aloisi, the Nut-puncher and Archie Thompson are more talented and better players than Killen, and there's a few more forwards around in the A-league who I'd rather see play for the Phoenix than Killen.

i think the problem is that none of us have really seen him play too often, due to his clubs not being televised in NZ.  The game against fiji he was gash, but i can understand why, what with flying 12,000 miles and having half the games called off - I think he was fully entitled to think that football in NZ is a joke, and there is no point in bothering coming back for these mickey mouse games.

He has done well at Oldham, Hibs and is now at celtic, so he cannot be that bad a player.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

I think his best days are behind him now, and he should look for a club in the NZFC or some Asian  club/s.
If the two clubs from QLD join the A-League  maybe Killen could look for a spot on the bench @ either one of them.

gee... this aussie likes to bait dunnhee...no wonder he was deported...

I thought Killen played ok against Brazil being the only real time i've seen him play...yeh he was genuinely in the frame until Macdonald started playing like a legend according to a friend who supports celtic over here...

yeh can't blame him with the crap surrounding nz football...I think he was gunna get a start or something when he came over for the cancelled game...

hope vennegor retires and he starts to play like a legend...I think he might not always be a charmer either from dirty rumours...but not a pre-req of being a top striker...

Trust me I was hoping for Killen to fire at Celtic like a Thai GO-GO Girl on heat, But he had`nt. Where at Hibs he was getting games and did look the goods.

Ha ha ha, just read your post Convict. I have to agree that after playing Benfica in the Champions League Killen is probably relishing the chance to turn out for 'Canterbury Who?' or 'Waitakere What?'. And at 26 he's past it and likely to follow Thierry Henri's lead and wind down his career by warming a bench in some remote cultural backwater.

I hear that Harry Kewell is looking to sign for Whittlesea Zebras as he heard Kristian Rees found it a useful pathway to cracking the big league with the Phoenix. Cahill, Emerton and Neill are waiting in hopeful anticipation to see if it works out...

Killen is doing well and won't be on his way home for some years yet. I guess it's all to do with the Australian perspective on football that's brought about this misunderstanding of footballing success. Hopefully someone may help us on this issue because I don't understand it even though it is a simple question- 'if Australia is such a big place, why is their gene pool so small?'
