I hate glasgow celtic coz im a rangers fan, but thats beside the point, the point is Chris Killen has become surplus to requirements at celtic and is FREE to leave in January, now i was thinking as he is a born and bread kiwi and is a current All white star and is a good striker, why dont the phoenix try and get him to join us for next season?

what are your thoughts?

he shoulda stayed with hibs, he was scoring goals for fun last season, he was out injured for a few months but still managed to be 2nd top goal scorer in the SPL, celtic have wasted him, its a shame coz he was amazing at hibs, the hibs supporter on this forum will back me up.

gordon strachan only signed killen becoz rangers were wanting to sign him and look whats happened hes left on the bench every week, so hes not getting a chance to prove himself, but hes only young and i think the a-league would be good for him, plus he can play for a NZ side in the phoenix under his all whites coach retro rikki!!

I think it would be nuts if the phoenix didnt at least enquire about his services.

January is the transfer window in europe coz their season ends in May, i hear you saying its basically the end of the season, thats what im saying why dont we try and get him for next season rather than the current season, him and smeltz up front would be a good combo.

from what I can remember Hibs didnt want him. He was basically as good as signed by a Eng Championship side before Celtic came out of nowhere - so rangers didnt want him. Being on the bench for Celtic is a decent effort, and what he is getting paid would kick ass. He will always make the All Whites. So basically what Im saying is a disagree with everything you say..

He went to Celtic because of the money

He went to Celtic because he realised Cardiff are not top quality, and Rangers are scum

Jar of Vinegar of Kitchensink and Skippy either need to be injured or suspensed for Killen to really get another go.

Skippy is hitting them in from everywhere, so no chance for KIllen

I was confused that Killen started infront for Skippy in the CPL game recently

Yes he could come to Phoenix, but will Terry want to spend the big bucks?

Hibs were offering him a 1 year contract, which he turned down saying it wasn't long enough

I think offering him a 1 year contract was fair enough considering he was injured and had only played half a season.

Saying that he's probably earned as much sitting on the bench for Celtic in 4 months than he did in a season playing for Hibs.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

If true then that was a quick fall out of favour,as i read an interview last week where strachan said he was impressed with how he handled himself since arriving and said he deserved to be pushing for one of the starting spots.Even macdonald said he enjoyed playing with killen and how he wouldnt be getting as many chances if it wasnt for him.

Why would he move from celtic, playing oin the champs league, to the phoenix? Career killer...

He is on the bench every game, and starting the odd one too. Id hardly call that surplus to requirements. Strachan loves him and says he could be pushing for a starting spot next season...

I disagree with everything you said also

Allegedly

read down to gordon strachans comments.
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan says fringe players like Derek Riordan, Bobo Balde and Chris Killen are free to leave in January if they are unhappy at the Glasgow club. (Express)

so you are all telling me that you would NOT like to see chris killen at the phoenix??

I'm struggling to work out how Killen is suddenly "surplus to requirements", given there has never been a time since his signing by Celtic at which he has been more important to them. When he was signed he was the 4th striker (arguably). Now, with injuries he is perhaps number two, and just bc McDonald is playing well doesnt make Killen redundant. He scored a fortnight back, started the CPL game, played a full 90 against Motherwell, and has got excellent raps from the manager last few weeks.

So, given his contractual situation (which is short-term no doubt partly due to his recent injury probelms) I can understand the manager giving him the option of leaving if he is not playing and not enjoying himself - but that does not mean he is "surplus".

Maybe Strachan will sign further strikers and maybe Killen will fall out of favour, but it seems to me that just right now he is doint pretty nicely thank you and any specualation about being able to drag him from Celtic and the CPL to Welington are a touch far-fetched.

If he does fall out of favour at Celtic, given his goal scoring record for Hibs, and the contribution he has made at Celtic, I suspect there will be options for him.

Yes there will be options but i'm sure  that they will lie in the lower English divisions ,i reckon he has a very savvy agent looking after his contractual stuff  just look at the way he bailed out when  Sponge Head Bob's revolution  started at Easter Road first  flirting with Cardiff  then pulling the pin at the last second  before jumping into bed with wee Stricken at Dark heid !
I'm convinced he's a temporary  fixture  in  at Sheltic Perk and will leave at the end of the season probably for Englush div one Cocacola anonymity ,he is a good striker but very prone to injury and can be a expensive bench warmer i think it will be  a few years before he heads back down to this side of the planet !

His deal at Celtic was reportedly worth in excess of $1 million dollars. And there was a few clubs after him as until he got injured he was top goalscorer in the SPL and Strachan has been singing his praises of late.

"if they are unhappy" are the key words in this 'quote' Why would Killen be unhappy, he's getting a bit of game time... he'd be dumb to move.

he was 2nd top goalscorer in the SPL, 1st was Kris Boyd - what im trying to say is that what if killen came out and said "i want to play for the phoenix", would you all not take him to enhance the team?

This is all very interesting, but why isn't it in the All Whites section?
Not really anything to do with Phoenix ...

I'll state the obvious - this is a very speculative thread. Although I'm quite happy with Smeltz being here, as Wolfben said somewhere else I think, Killen is poor man's Smeltz...

i think that is the KEY point. This thread should only be in this section of the forum if you believe there is some possibility Killen is going to move from Celtic to the Phoenix.

Fair to say, while of course we would like to see him here, along with Nelsen perhaps and maybe Drogba, there is not even the remotest suggestion it is on the cards, and, therefore, I support the proposition this should be in the AWs section, or a new string dedicated to fantasy.

I will, of course look like a plonker if Ricki grabs him in the transfer window. But on the basis of the fact that a.) we have a full squad b.) we just signed our marquee c.) he is playing champs league football d.) he is doing fine at Parkhead (getting game time, even scored the other day) e.) he is making a guzillion $ right now (even on the bench) f.) other Scottish/English clubs would take him g.) there is not a shred of suggestion he is interested or we could afford him ...

Im going to stick my neck out!

Mods - please shift to AW section

I don't think celtic won't to leave Killen,because

1-over vennegoor and mc donald,he's the best striker of the team(zurawski is old and riordan is great but  his young, and olso the others strikers.

2-Gordon Strachan likes him.

3-And I'm sure Mc donald can't play well and strike all the season, killen's moment is not far.

To say that Killen is the poor mans Smeltz is a little silly. Although I have always thought Smeltz had potential, realistically this is his first really succesful season. Killen seems to have a reasonable scoring record wherever he goes. A case in point...compare their goalscoring records for NZ. Another good season from Smeltz next year might convince me otherwise.

Bang on.  I fully believe that Killy will become NZ's greatest ever striker (I would say he's fourth right now behind Covs, Summner and WR).

According to what I've read in UK papers, things seem to be positive in that Strachan seems to like him and thinks that a part of the reason MacDonald is scoring so frequently is the way he works with Killen.

Haven't seen many matches recently so hard to judge form, but just happy he's doing well for the time being. Long may it continue as we've got to have players playing at a high level for the good of the All Whites.

Greater than Wynton Rufer? IMO not a chance of that happening. Second best, maybe.
