Fifa World Cup technical role for Ricki Herbert
Fifa World Cup technical role for Ricki Herbert
Some days , the Trough seems to be just there , then its seems almost unattainable , then suddenly , utterly unexpectedly , the only real work that you have to do is ring Jeremy .....
After all the ridicule he received for his expired brand of football and questionable choice of players, he makes it after all.
FIFA probably have a quota and required someone from Oceania on the technical panel for the World Cup.
They were unlikely to appoint someone from the Solomons or Vanuatu.
Having said that, if it's the "Technical Study Group" being referred to, similar to this one at the last Confederations Cup, it's a small group.
But FIFA seem to go for geographical spread because that Confeds Cup TSG had members from Sudan, Hong Kong and El Salvador as well as France, Brazil and Spain:

Still, a really prestigious gig. With that on his CV, he could start calling himself "Dr Herbert" and spend the rest of his life talking at international coaching seminars etc. Would surely help him gain work around the globe anyway. Nowhere for him to go in NZ really (coaching ASB Premiership not likely to interest Ricki any more).

That should be 'CongraTulations', by the way. Sorry.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Grumpy old bastard alert
Good luck to him. Seems a pretty simple gig and he did get a tiny team into a finals and did a pretty good job even if you believe half the rumors.

Ricki also mentioned in the Aussie media as a candidate for the vacant Sydney FC job.
After all he does have a history of working with Sydney CEO Tony Pignata at the Nix.
Does this mean we could see Jeremy Christie finally find a club - joined by Leo Bertos with Lochhead transferring from Chivas USA?
Seems unlikely that even Ricki's mate Tony P would consider him though to me.
