Not really answering "Eh?" but... In Wellington's early days "football" games were often played under "Victorian rules" as they called them.

While 1874 saw the near cessation of football in Wellington,
the next year was one of both confusion and solidarity. The indifference of the past year
had carried forward and a growing movement for the implementation of Victorian
rules existed. So much so that along with the Wellington Club, two new clubs both
under Victorian rules were formed. Eventually a set of unique, hybrid rules was developed
and the games began to be contested under these rules. A problem came to head
when the annual Nelson contest meant that rugby rules had to be used. Eventually, the

decision was to return to that game, and following the Auckland tour later that year, it
was solidly set as the version of football in Wellington.
