8:30pm Sky Sport 1, Wednesday 19th May.

A full hour dedicated to interviews with Ryan Nelsen, Ricki Herbert and Winston Reid. Yes I know a lot of you guys dont much like Mr. Murray Deaker ... BUT its football. And for anyone wanting to learn a little bit more about Winston Reid it could be worth a watch.

I'm waiting for Muzza to display his incisive journalistic skills and encyclopaedic football knowledge by asking Winston Reid if he is related to a former member (of Parliament) by the name of Peters

that's what I was thinking.

I sure hope someone else does an interview with Reid, someone who will ask decent questions.

but of course I will still watch it because I wanna see what they have to say..

"So Winston, did you ever play for the Phoenix?"
Permalink Permalink

The first question will be "Winston...being a maori boy, I'll bet you are a big rugby fan, right!?". The second question question will be " Winston.....if you had a choice, would you rather be an All Black or a All White". The third question "Winston....do they play rugby in Denmark?". Fourth question "Winston....who do you think will win the World Cup? the All Blacks or the Springboks or the Wallabies" etc etc etc etc
I will watch it, but will probably cringe every 10 seconds.....Good grief the standard of sports journalism in this country is abysmal(with a couple of notable exceptions)

I agree, my problem is that he doesn't seem to do (or even have done for him) the smallest amount of research into the guest or topic he is talking about if its not Golf, Rugby or Cricket.

Yeah.

I mean, it's only the highest participation sport in NZ among all adults. And gets hours and hours of live and delayed coverage on TV - including the NZ Open.

But yeah.

I have never actually met anyone who has a good word to say about Muddy Sneaker. Even r*gby and loigue fans I know think he's the pits. Quite how he keeps his job is beyond me. Lack of a viable alternative perhaps?
I'll watch but, like most, cringe throughout.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

I think we have every right to criticise Deaker. He's supposed to be a full time profesional sports journalist. He gets paid to do what he does. Often he come across as totally unprepared and obviously does not adequetly research the topic for the show. He's good on rugby and golf and maybe a bit on league......everything else is a disaster zone!!!!

He appeals to the 'back in the day' 60+ demographic who love to bitch and whine about anything and everything.

His demographic are gradually kicking the bucket...... he'll either join them soon, or be put out to pasture...

And heres me thinking that Deaks cocked it up, or maybe thought that Fallon was Reid. Nelsen interview was good.

i've watched a bit of the Admiral's interview - his intelligence and character make Deaker tolerable (just)

recording it for later

seems like Sky have put a bit of thought and effort into the scripting with some decent accompanying footage
