its about what you would expect "what is it like working under ricki?" and "shane, why do you take your shirt off when you score?"

Deakers rant about improving the National League and more AW's games being key to the future was amusing when there have been hints that the exact opposite are NZFs plans.

He might be a bit of a twat but his nephew is a top guy.

Are there replays of this? Or online replays or something?

Has Deaker suddenly transformed himself from "I don't know much about this soccer" to the biomag powered font of football knowledge?

"Phoenix till they lose"

In Deaker's defence though, Shane, Mark and Andy all agreed more games are needed at home against better opposition. But thats been discussed elsewhere.

To be fair to Murray, he's never claimed to be a football know it all (or even big fan), he admits he doesn't know much about it. But he makes an effort to get those guys on his show and chat to them, cos he knows its World Cup year, and he knows viewers are interested in it. Whats wrong with that?

This.  If this is his job, then go do some bloody research.

So bad we turned it off at our flat.

My personal favourite was him asking Smeltzy: "So Shane, did you play for the Phoenix at all?"

"No Deaks, I'm only their best player ever in their history..."

I love football breaking into the rugby media but surely he's got a flunky who can do some basic research for him?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

What a muppet... did he seriously ask Smeltz if he played for the nix.

Some basic research on your guest Murray... please.

Still any media is good media as they say.

Not every journalist is going to know lots about football. Murray is one of these and is trying to get into it. Just like not many can relate to rugby on here. In fact, there would be quite a few journalists who don't know much about football, seeing as it has only recently really come to life in this country. Would you rather he had Richie McCaw, Dan Carter and Graham Henry on there instead of Smeltzy and co? If he knew nothing about rugby and lots about football no one would bag him. Sounds as if every journalist must be into football and know lots about it or else they must be a terrible journalist even if they are trying to put time into it. Jeeez...

Let the shredding begin...

Oh the young and Naive.

Sorry Hampster, he's got a shocking record of bandwagoning, jumping ship and offering badly formed opinions on any number of subjects but particularly football.

Rampant ego-maniac that get's way to much airtime for the quality of journalism he offers.

You either love him or you hate him man, and you can't deny that either way people like to listen to/watch him cos he always says something outrageous that gets people arguing.

As for 'bandwagoning', isn't his job to talk about the current stuff? so when the Nix went through the purple patch last season, yeah he suddenly started talking about footy, but that's his job, cos people wanted to hear about it.

I don't think its really to do with the fact he knows nothing about the game, although arguebly if you are a half decent sports journalist / talk show host a reasonable general knowledge of all major sports within your country should be expected.

Its more the case that he went into an interview ill prepared. There is no excuse for that... especially on something like Smeltz playing for the nix.

I didn't watch it because the guy is both ill-formed and a windbag - which is a truly appalling combo

on that basis I'd love it if one or two on here could be conscripted to interview the All Blacks ahead of their involvement in rugby's attempt at a world cup

At least there on there. Maybe he know bugger all and didn't do his research.

But hey, it is a major sports show in the country and he is well respected (4th or 5th most influential person in New Zealand Sport according to the listener i think it was) So i would prefer to have him singing footballs praises for a little while.

I mean even a year maybe two years ago, the idea of having two segments dedicated to 'poofball' would have been absolutely laughed at. Go Deaks! haha
