Dreadful news :(

Not only was he an excellent player, he was a top bloke.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Very sad. Glad it got some coverage on the 6 o'clock news. Deserved it.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

That is so sad. Loved watching him play for Shore - such a dominant figure in midfield and a great athlete.

"A lot of the players we are seeing today couldn't lace Duncan's boots." Steve Sumner.

"At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive...

I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...

Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...

Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land..."

RIP Duncan

One of my heroes as a teenager following the All Whites and the Rothmans National League in the 1980's.

Saw him play many times for North Shore vs. Nelson United and Christchurch United in a team that also included Adrian Elrick.

It's a shock to hear he's gone so young - he must have been only 22 when the All Whites qualified for the '82 World Cup.

Always remember his neck beads - a distinctive touch. Wouldn't be allowed to wear them now probably ("safety" issue?)

Found this photo on a Spanish language website that has portraits of all the 1982 All Whites - that's how legendary they are.

Duncan on the right is awarded his NZ Football blazer at the World Cup qualifier vs. Solomons, Auckland Sept. 2012

92 games total for the All Whites (58 A internationals) including all 15 qualifiers for Spain '82 and all three Finals games.
