Canada have now learn't the secret to unsuccessfully parking the bus.

At least it's not a ferry.

Gotta like this Mayne fella - not picking Wilkinson and now boosting up Foster rather than carrying an injured player. Hopefully we are drawing a line under the old hands.

Canada taking the absolute piss here.
The drone story was one of the top stories on CNN's "World Sport" news show a few minutes ago.
Their report says that the two members of the Canadian women's football staff responsible have been packed off back to Canada by the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Got to all be unsettling for the Canucks you'd think. If the Ferns are ever a chance of upsetting powerhouse Canada, it would be now surely.

The Canadians did beat Matildas 2-1, ten days ago in a warmup to Spain.

So Riley was never fit, took a while for Mayne to see it.  Oh well,we won't see her again.

This must be great motivation for the Ferns. The fact that Canada apparently have so little faith in their own players ability to deal with what the Ferns have on the pitch. They instead resort to this.

Second best piece of news I've had this morning. For mine she has been a big part of the culture problem in this team. On camera she sells this love for all attitude, but I'd out money on the fact that she was part of the player cliques that shunned the younger players and caused the issues for management.

"In a statement to the CBC, a French prosecutor said a 43-year-old coach — who is not named in the statement but told police he was an analyst working for the women’s team — captured images of at least two practices. Police also obtained images from a July 20 practice at the Michon stadium in Saint-Etienne, in addition to the photos of players practicing on Monday, when he was arrested.
The man was charged with maintaining an unmanned aircraft over a prohibited area and accepted his suspended sentence in the presence of his lawyer. The COC offered him legal support and consular services through Global Affairs Canada, CEO and secretary general David Shoemaker said in a press conference Wednesday." (source)

Really Canada should be docked points for all of this. Perhaps do it immediately after their last game so they dont have a chance to spit the dummy and pull out leaving less games for other teams to play

Analyst Joseph Lombardi has reportedly been given a suspended eight-month prison sentence for using a drone to film the Football Ferns at training.

Lombardi and Canada’s assistant coach are being sent home after
twice spying on the New Zealand team at the Olympic Games.

Canada’s head coach Bev Priestman has stood down from her role for the opening group game against the Football Ferns.

Surely NZ gets awarded the win. I cant see how the game can be played under any illusion of fairness.

I think the main thing is that Canada should not get to choose their own punishment, that is not justice.

I hope this thread is not going to drone on and on!!

Seriously, I wish NZF would deal with Klmikova as quicjkly as the canadians did with their two. 2 sacked and I think their coach did do the most sportsmanhip thing by volunteering to sit out the game.

It's surprising that as of yet neither Fifa or the IOC have done anything.

I see they both say they have opened disciplinary proceedings - but you would think they should really make a judgement prior to the match.

I'm looking forward to the match and I'm  hoping this gives the Ferns a bit of extra motivation to get one over Canada. Definitely feels like it's added a bit of spice to the matchup anyway

Last time the Football Ferns were the first story on one news was the first match of the Womens world cup.  How time flies.

I hope our girls can use this as motivation to get a result.

What an absolute horrible opening 10 mins by us. Every time we win the ball we just hoof it forward. No control at all in possession.

Sharke through and through so far!

Hope Bowen and Stott can keep up their performances so far. Going to be a long game under Canadian pressure. Must be competitive in the possession battle

A little bit surprised at how poor Canada have been, even though they are dominating. How often are they getting actually dangerous shots on? And no crosses straight into Leats' arms don't count

Leat commanding her penalty area well, shame about her awful distribution though

Goal had to come.

We are lucky to be going in at 1-1. Our passing has been horrendous throughout this game. Aimless longballs and misdirects 5 yarders as soon as we win possession. No one in our midfield (Taylor atleast has tried) looks like they know how to do anything other than close down a player.

Terrible watching. Where is Fraser - she is playing at a higher level than anyone else on we have on the pitch and might actually help us to keep the ball!

Interesting perspective considering we are playing the reigning champs and were seconds away from leading at half time...

But yes NZ needs to threaten going forward this half. Can't just let Canada pile on the pressure because they will eventually break through if we do. Need a bit more sustained possession and show a goal threat at the other end, keep them on their toes.

Most Europeans feel that no football should not be at the Olympics.

Mens club football takes the piss put of it and no one really cares who wins the ladies version either in most places. It's only minnows like us who are interested. Same goes for 7s.

Aside from the Argentina and France games, there are loads of tickets unsold.

Goal was coming, Leat nearly gave one away earlier. We'll be lucky to hold this to 1-1.

Not sure that the US is the pinnacle anymore. Think England is the place to be now.

The mens edition is a joke but this is the second greatest honour only behind World Cup historically in womens game.... so its definitely not just us that is interested. Lack of French public support for non-France teams doesn't mean that nobody is interested.

Also crowd for Japan-Spain is much bigger than this
