Fascinating start. A heap of chances both ways, good saves both keepers. Oh and lineup btw. It's a 3-5-2 apparently

We have started ok.

Jale out injured so not good news for the Wahinix.

I miss Macey Fraser
22 Feb 23:12
Good save from Esson.
22 Feb 23:16
3 at the back. And we are already looking super exposed in defence.
Jale and Clegg injured. What is it with this Ferns team and injuries in camp. Happens every time they get together. Maybe no surprise Bott, Bowen and Stott aren't there.
22 Feb 23:20
Well that was coming.
22 Feb 23:20
Would prefer to see a back four o Neville Bunge Barry Foster. With Taylor as DM.
Not convinced with Foster at DM.
22 Feb 23:21
Need some tweaks at the back. Felt like a goal was coming either way. A shame as we've been shown a lot of creativity that often runs short for this team.
22 Feb 23:40
Salas should have scored then
22 Feb 23:46
Yes! Cracking effort Riley!
22 Feb 23:47
Lovely goal!
22 Feb 23:51
Great Goal.
But not a lot of other positives there. Too many players playing out of there natural positions for me. Mayne is pretty much auditioning for the job. Not sold yet.
I guess he is at least trying something a bit different I suppose.
22 Feb 23:51
Did she mean that?

Rusty Dunks

Looked like a shot to me

Yep respect that they are trying to showcase more attacking impetus and try a few different things out, but some stuff hasn't worked including as you said players out of position.

Would like to see us switch to a back four second half and the likes of Elliot, Jacqui Hand and Maya Hahn getting on the park.

That sky looks very very yellow.  Also very blustery
23 Feb 00:32
Nice to see Flea as captain, maybe this is a question better asked after the games but I wonder if that could become permanent?

I know caps don’t tell the whole story but I hadn’t fully appreciated how experienced she is compared to the rest of the squad.
23 Feb 00:41
Looks like Ali Riley's playing days are over. Katie Bowen will likely now be the Ferms permanent captain when a full strength squad is next picked.
23 Feb 00:45
Pretty ordinary second half from us. Some okay chances but a lot of hopeful long balls and less clear plan on attack.
23 Feb 00:50
Interesting to note we have had 61% possession but getting outdone in both shots and shots on target.
23 Feb 00:55
Entertaining game and probably a fair result all things considered.

Was always likely to be an even game considering the standing of the teams and home advantage.

Knocked the ball around well for the most part.

But didn't go forward enough and didn't go forward well enough.

Its no surprise, but we looked devoid of any goal scoring ability.

Hand did well, but crikey there is room for a striker or two if we can find one. Kitching has to do better .
We won't ever beat anyone until we address that problem.

A few more yellow  cards could have been given, the ref made some interesting calls.

23 Feb 01:02
Hopefully we can build on today's performance and get the win on Wednesday.

I only watched the 2nd half today, but thought we did ok, mixed it up with playing out and being more direct at times. I know the opposition not up to much but the side put out seemed pretty young and inexperienced. Think should be happy with how it went.

Excuse and spelling and grammar mistakes.

Second game not behind closed doors anymore - Costa Rican federation offering free entry. With a small ground hopefully that will mean it's packed!

Surely have a penalty shootout if tomorrows game is a draw😅

Three changes for today's Starting XI
26 Feb 00:49
I was hoping they would start Fraser and Hahn.
26 Feb 01:15
The time being wasted taking throws and kicks is ridiculous.  Play is supposed to be continuous.

26 Feb 01:46
Yeh this ref is pretty pedantic. Same as last game
26 Feb 01:49
Fenix
I was hoping they would start Fraser and Hahn.
Hope we see them both on together in this second half. Be good to give Longo a rest.
26 Feb 02:21
Need to make subs, Longo looks knackered. Esson doing well to keep us in it at times. Would like to see more urgency on attack
26 Feb 02:47
Maya Hahn! And the setup from Fraser! Far out that was bloody awesome
26 Feb 03:01 · edited 26 Feb 03:02 · History
Fraser and Hahn came up with the only decent play in the game.
That was our one shot on target.

Did anything else happen???
26 Feb 05:44 · edited 26 Feb 05:45 · History
Just finished watching the game delayed.

Didn't think we were going to manage to get the win as we really didn't have any decent shots throughout the game.

That is until Maya Hahn! It really was an awesome strike, and the moment of brilliance we needed to get the win.

Fraser did well with the assist too.

Also can't forget to mention Vic Esson who kept us in it with some great saves.

Happy we got the win, but I would've liked to see us creating a few more chances in all honesty. We probably shouldn't be struggling quite so much to create and score against lower ranked opposition.
26 Feb 06:17
Shout out to Kate Taylor also. Put in a big shift over both games being the centre back in a back 3.

26 Feb 06:38

NZ Football have confirmed the Ferns will take on Chinese Taipei on 8th April
26 Feb 06:40
Taylor did fine. We have a number of defenders who are up to the task, but Bowen, Scott and Bott are the best IMO.

I can't say I saw what this new style and approach was, because we created absolutely nothing over 2 games against some average opposition.

With Fraser,Hahn and Longo, at least we have some hope for improvement in the middle.

Up front, the door is wide open for someone who knows where the goal is.
