Just really disappointed with how technically poor we were. Poor touches, under or over hit passes, unable to dribble the ball, keeper who could seem to judge a cross.

Did we have a shot on target?

Did we have a shot on target?
Think it was only a Kelli Brown attempt in the second half that forced a good save from their keeper.

That was also the closest we came to scoring all match.

That goal for 2-0 was something else... probably the least intentional goal she'll ever score

Hopefully Esson goes better at the Nix, and hopefully Anna Leat can resurrect her career at Newcastle.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360866212/football-ferns-lose-mexico-again-despite-improved-showing

Four of the 16 players involved in Ciudad Juárez didn't play in the first match, with the Ferns now travelling to Kansas City, Missouri, for a daunting clash with the United States on Wednesday (kickoff 1pm Thursday NZ time).

Mexico made 10 changes, with centre back Rebeca Bernal the only player to back up.

It was the second time in as many matches that an Esson error led to a goal, after she failed to collect the ball at an early corner in the first meeting between the two teams this month.

Americans first lost (1-2) & then beat (3-1) Portugal in a pair of games last week.
Wonder if they had a cringeworthy pre series "We. Are. Going. To. Beat. Portugal" press conference.

bit of a soft call from the ref to be fair, Wall barely touched the US player.

Eish, we are playing the best team going around atm. They are just several levels above everything we can do. Good fight and commitment from the team but just coming up unstoppable skill.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

the clear difference between the #2 ranked team and the #33 ranked team, financially the spend on the USA team would dwarf ours and it is being demonstrated on the pitch today,

I'd make them all watch the match replay many times,to see what USA did.  Doesn't cost much money to do that, and the lessons were all there.

I mean Portugal are 23rd, and not long ago were below NZ, they played USA a week ago and beat them 2-1, I think this reads far worse for the ferns :(

"How do we close the gap"?

About 2.40 mins into the video.

You'd hope it's closer against the Matildas in November.

Been at work so haven't seen even a second of the game, but seriously, wtf was the point of that?

I get the idea of playing good teams to test yourselves, but we always get hammered against the USA and it's frankly a waste of time. Opposition like Australia and Japan far more worth because while they're going to beat us we can at least give them a go.

For me we were just physically not at the race, just slower and out muscled to easily. Looked a bit shell shocked. Just need bit of composure, I know that's easier said then done when the pressed so effectively.
