If you are interested in the history of womens football in this part of the world , particularly in the light of recent events , then the following book may be of interest

Title : Women in Boots - Football and Feminism in the 1970's

Authors : Marion Stell and Heather Reid

Published :2020

ISBN : 978-1-925984-71-2

Written by a couple of Australians it focuses on the clashes between the Football Ferns and Matildas in 1979-80 from both to Oz and Kiwi perspective. Lot of interviews with ex Football Ferns like Wendy Sharpe, Debbie Leonidas , Naureen Jacobsen and others.

Whilst it is a bit of an academic book , the title is perhaps a bit misleading. Whilst it does highlight the issues faced by women in football in those times , it is not an overtly feminist book. AS someone involved on the periphery of the womens game at the time i found it an interesting and slightly nostalgic read.

I got my copy from the Auckland public library (new releaes). Not sure if you can purchase easily. Sure that someone like Unity Books could probably source or perhaps a womens bookshop. Well worth a read
