Football Ferns v Norway

Anyone in the UK know if we are going to be able to watch this at 12.45pm London time.
I noticed the BBC advertised to show the Argentina v sweden game online. But in fact are showing USA v Japan which is good. As I can get a glimpse of the USA. USA just scored 1-0 over Japan.
BBC are saying they are going to cover the China v Canada game at 12.45pm. Hopefully that is wrong as well and they show the NZ v Norway game :)

I thought it is on at 11.45? Or is it only gonna be 'partial coverage'?
Just heard Pete Williams say it is live tonight at 11.45 on 1, hopefully all of it. If so then good job TVNZ but you need to back it up with full coverage of the Olywhites v Brazil match tomorrow.

They should. The other night didn't they have the option of being able to watch any one of 4 matches in progress?

yeah, but that was before the actual olympics started. now the bbc are showing all the other sports on those channels. It looks like they are only freeing up one channel for football. thus only one game.

Last time I managed to watch the Olywhites on a site called Justin TV. It doesn't have the women's tonight. I hate how the TVNZ live website doesn't let us watch from outside NZ....

Oh that's rather sh*te for you overseas viewers then. I'll be online in the match thread whilst the game is on most likely so updates shall be provided.
Meanwhile on this game, 1-0 at HT. Not bad, settled well after the early goal and have produced some brief moments of good football. Could easily open up in the 2nd half though.

You can watch it on NBC at this site: http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/player.html?assetid=fb2h-bj-sd14-080908-193504&channelcode=sportfb
All you need is a US zip code that corresponds with a TV provider in an area of the USA... I have no idea and it's banned me for 24 hours for getting the zip code wrong three times >:(

1-0 63 mins. Possible penalty turned down by the ref, in my blinkered nz eyes i'd say penalty.

1-0 still with 15 to go. Our best player is our right wing without a doubt she has been great down that wing all night. We have had the better opportunities this half i'd say.
Three for me, and two for them.

FT 1-0. Good effort from the girls against one of the top sides in the world. Still a chance at going through in 3rd though.

Rebecca Smith at the back looked really solid and that shot she took had murder written on it - shame it was a little wide because damn!
I really rate Kirsty Yallop normally, but like many of the players on both teams she seemed to give the ball away a lot today.
Oh and that Norwegian goalkeeper is HOT! XD

Single most frustrating game i've ever watched! They just lacked luck and some good crossing. In the end they looked like a team that had been totally out foxed. Hopefully they can turn it around for there next match.
In saying that they did hold their own with Norway looking just as lost for the second half to. Scape goat=polution

Slightly better distribution but still too much aimless hoofing. I would be really interested to hear from John Herdman what that tactic is supposed to achieve or is it just that we lack the confidence to knock the ball around. Several times our fullbacks were in overlaping positions and I can only remember one time that we used them. We didn't look out of our depth apart from the attacking third where we struggled to create many meaningful chances. The defence played well - composed and rarely troubled. A typical "battling" Kiwi performance.
For the 4th ranked team Norway were pretty disappointing. Other than the goal there wasn't much in attack from them either.
The difference was Norway scored from their best attacking move and we didn't from ours when Yallop headed over a few minutes later.
For all that we looked competitive at this level. Just need a bit more composure

Good on the girls, they looked really competitive, just a shame a sitter of a header went over the bar or they would have got a result.
I'm with Nickel. Both teams had talent, but the Norwegian goalkeeper wow!....... I would have missed the header as well.

To be honest it was only the last ball that let them down, the defence looked pretty solid, the midfeild are reasonably composed and our right winger was class. It didn't look like 24th ranked playing 4th ranked, for periods we had the edge. Once they get a bit more confidence in front of goal (which seems to be our problem in both the mens and womens game) and in their own abilities they will only get better(a lot of them are still very young), remember the players they are playing against are mostly professionals.
I actually think they play a better passing game than our u23 men and if they continue to grow like they have over the last year then a top 10 womens ranking is well within our grasp.

Decent results- Herdman is a good coach and we have some great players.

We played far better than we did against Japan, it was good to see. In the first half we almost got a header into their net. It was a brilliant play and if it went in it would have to be first on Dobbo's plays of the week.
I agree Nickel, their Goalie was a babe (at least half of their team were babes actually).
What's this about going through in 3rd place? Is that possible? And what was the end score in USA vs Japan?

I think Kirsty Yallop is an over-rated mouthpiece.
However personal opinions aside, she gave possession away alot and I don't think it was her fault, mostly more down to the marking and tactics of Norway. Everytime she had space looking forward, Norway ran a striker up her bum, so when she had to turn back cause her team mates were marked, she was turning back into a Norwegian player right on her.

Nope, only three groups in the women's so the top two third places go through as well.

By Godfathers, you lot are a worry! Except Teza - spot on, ace! Couldn't agree more!

Greetings from Shenyang, where the girls and our twenty-strong support crew are now ensconced after a train trip from Qinhuangdao this morning.
The qualification situation is thus:
Top two in each group go through, plus the two best-placed third-placed teams.
Currently, Norway is the only team certain of a quarter-finals berth, while the last-mentioned spots are occupied by North Korea and Sweden - both have three points, each having won one of their opening matches.
To have any chance of making the last eight, the Football Ferns have to beat Team USA ... which would just about be akin to winning the gold medal itself, seeing as our opponents on Tuesday night are the reigning Olympic Women's Football champions.
Should NZF's Team of the Year in waiting pull off that result, then they will defo progress, regardless of any of the other results on Tuesday evening. Interestingly, a certain mix of results stemming from a NZ win could also lead to a situation whereby the USA end up being eliminated.
Make no mistake, the girls will be going all out for this one - this is their gold medal match and World Cup Final rolled into one.
Cheers,
JR
PS It's bloody warm and muggy here, and still smog about, but today I caught my first glimpse of blue sky since arriving in China.
