Last full NWSL season (2019) was a 24 game regular season (9 teams). Not that taxing. Football Ferns (once Covid is no longer making international travel hard), would at most play 6 games a year?  Don't think either Riley or Erceg are mums? - which could bring retirement forward.

I see whole current Ferns team hanging in until 2023, once in a lifetime experience to play a home world cup. Treasured even more because the Ferns play all so rarely at home. It's a huge carrot only 2 years away.

So new Ferns coach will likely have this squad all available, be interesting over next few years if they decide to drop any of them. Nayler dropped for Leat last night. Green for Cleverley.
One of those decisions worked out well. A shame the two keepers selected for Tokyo have had very little recent competition experience  - Nayler, one game for Reading, Leat, one? game for Northern in the National League in 2019. Both look well out of sorts. Though credit to Nayler for some top saves v Aus. Tough call on Alfeld and Candy who are both match fit and standouts in their respective comps. Esson also comes straight from Norway comp.
