Game on late tonight, hoping we at least come out of this without getting thrashed.
Also expect American right-wing media to get upset at the US team again as they hate on them for kneeling

Im expecting 2 difficult scores in the next couple of games unfortunately. The preparation hasnt been as good as in previous campaigns for obvious reasons.
However these last 2 games are also a last chance to see some of our more celebrated players at a major tournament, many of them are at the end of a cycle so Im looking forward to seeing them playing for these last couple of games. There is a good core who have worked incredibly hard over the last decade, hope they get some final reward in these games.

watching the Swede V Aus game in pre for this one. Gotta say the football on display here is bloody amazing. The Swedes will be scary to play.
As for us, while we were outplayed by Aus, we weren't run off the park. and who knows, maybe the USA are waning. COYFF! huge chance tonight!

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Goal keeper wasn't positioned well for their goal. All 3 goals NZ has conceded so far at these olympics were goal keeper beaten at the near post.

Its quite frustrating watching the football ferns play.
Can't retain posession and no tracking players or pressing, conditions must be tough or we don't have quick enough players. Erceg is an awesome athlete, pretty sure she could outsprint the team. I guess other teams are just classes above.
Chance has looked very good on the ball.
Hoping the younger players like Satchell and Bunge get an opportunity for a run.

I don’t mind losing.. but we’re losing by parking the bus 2-0 down.. show some endeavour please..

I just wish our midfield was more dynamic, we seem quite skillful down either side of the field and some good pace with Satchell

Despite the scoreline I think they were better in long patches tonight, and unlucky with 2 oggies. Matildas score flattered them. This was the opposite, if still outclassed.

Might anyone know why Sermanni keeps Longo on the bench? If ever we needed a dynamic little general controlling play from the midfield....
The two fastest players in the Ferns are Rennie and Satchell - would love to see them both on at the same time, feeding Wilkinson in the middle. Perhaps Vic Esson in goal v Sweden with her Scandanavian experience?

Ali Riley turns 34 next month so she's a bit older but it's not outside the bounds of possibility she'll continue playing. I know she's a super-fit vegan.

I suppose the question is more do they deserve to continue on with how the teams been going? Maybe time to make room for younger players?

Last full NWSL season (2019) was a 24 game regular season (9 teams). Not that taxing. Football Ferns (once Covid is no longer making international travel hard), would at most play 6 games a year? Don't think either Riley or Erceg are mums? - which could bring retirement forward.
I see whole current Ferns team hanging in until 2023, once in a lifetime experience to play a home world cup. Treasured even more because the Ferns play all so rarely at home. It's a huge carrot only 2 years away.
So new Ferns coach will likely have this squad all available, be interesting over next few years if they decide to drop any of them. Nayler dropped for Leat last night. Green for Cleverley.
