A game against Australia would be nice. Nice to see the scoreline afterwards too.

A team like Qatar would be good opposition I think. No point playing a team like Australia as any friendly really needs to be against decent middle eastern opposition over there to give the team an opportunity to experience the conditions.

Its just that an Aussie game would be cheaper?. If played in Australia you would get a kiwi contingent rocking up.
Since Australia made the world cup in 2006 Friendly games have had a increase in turn outs. Im sure it would be viable. (even if its a A-League Socceroos Vs NZFC AW's)
The FFA can and do promote games pretty well these days. Thats if they wanted the game - which i doubt they would. But one can only hope.convict2009-06-18 19:59:59

If the FFA hosted the AW's in a friendly they would play it somewhere like Townsville or Newcastle. While it may be a good game from a match practice perspective it would do nothing to prepare the team for a WC qualifier against middle eastern opposition.

AMMAN: Iraq and Jordan have decided to play friendly matches with Oceania champions New Zealand in September.

New Zealand, who will play the winner of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in the AFC/OFC playoff for a place in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, will meet Iraq (pictured) on September 4 and will face Jordan on September 9.

Both these games will be played in Amman.

The Asian team hosts New Zealand on October 10 before travelling to New Zealand for the return leg on November 14.

Jordan, however, is preparing for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers as they will face Iran twice in November.

Good they have those games confirmed.

Friday September 4th Nix V Adelaide 7.30 at Wellington so it will be a depleted Nix team if that fixure is played.

The value of these friendlies will depend on being able to put out the expected starting side in my view. presumably these games wont occur during FIFA windows and will clash with A-league, as well as European footy and probably the MLS - so i figure there are going to be some real challenges getting players together for these games, let alone providing for any time "in camp". hope i am wrong.

Country before club every time!!!

This is the World f**king Cup - if the Phoenix don't play ball with releasing players for key warm-up matches I am going to burn my season ticket. And that will be after I have already jammed it up Terry's arse.

Bit rash that, it is a friendly, and the Nix practically represent the country as well, as a Wellingtonian I'd hate to see an important fixture thrown away. Tough call.
You know we belong together...

I would have preferred to play UAE and Oman but at least that's a start.

Why not just burn the national flag mate and be done with it.

Are you seriously saying you would jeopardise NZ's chances of qualifying for the World Cup for only the second time ever just for a couple of A-League wins???

Country before club. Always.
