Spotted on the Fifa website...anyone know any more about this ?  What happens if we get drawn in the same group  - can the friendly still be played ?

Course it can.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Phoenix and Euro players out maybe, that would leave us with Boyens, Oughton, J.Smith, Christie, Scott, Bannatyne, Barron, Vicelich, Elliot etc, MLS and the NZFC ? That is assuming the Phoenix and A-League and Euros can't play. I'm sure they could beat the Argies.

Venue shows as Mendoza.

Argentina also have a home friendly on Dec. 16th against the Czech Republic .

It is not an official FIFA window so I don't see how they are also playing the Czech Republic

Michael Laws will have a field day when we lose 15-0 :(

not sure about czech republic, but some (possibly even most) european leagues have a winter break.  for example germany winds up mid december and only strats again around end of january.  of course, doesn't help the czechs much if all their player play in england, who i guess like the tv income of all those festive period matches.

hope this goes ahead, but i think usually when they appear on the FIFA website before NZF website they don't go ahead??

the more games the better, some leagues will take extended breaks throughtlate december/early january so games against those particular countires could be plauable.. More games for NZ I don't care who is available who who we can play I just want more games before the world cup

Game times game time, especially for those not playing regularly at the moment (MLS). Hope it goes ahead, if we're missing players, so are they

I have a feeling this is just Fifa.com screwing up again. They have done it plenty of times in the past, and I'm guessing will do it plenty of times in the future too

Hope this is a f@#k up on fifa's part. Why on earth would we want to play Argentina full stop let alone without our European players????

Why wouldnt we?
1. Our best players aren't apart of the team.
2. We would lose 7plus nil and learn nothing.
3. Im sure their are other Asian teams around our ability who would give a more competitive game than Argentina.

If you select the 'head to head' tag on all of our other games listed on that page, it shows the Mens' A matches info.  Hit 'head to head' for this game and you get Womens' A matches.

Don't think this is the All Whites playing - it would have been in the news if we'd secured a friendly, and there's no FIFA window in December.  Unless it is only showing that match because our mens' team have never played Argentina, but the Football Ferns have.

Could be good for our players to get used to playing a big team in  tough conditions, even if both sides are b teams or local based players

Yep spot on Homer - didn't see it listed under Mens in the NZ homepage.  Guess that means we've never played Los Albicelestes before.

Not sure what to make of it.

Surely something would have been said about it in the media.

i almost though that maybe NZF and the argentinian FA had had discussions and agreed in principle to a match pending the world cup draw - so as it is not definite not telling the public, but somehow FIFA got hold of it.....

but i doubt it, i expect it is an error (i guess the above is just what i hope)

funny thing though - i seem to recall a while back the FIFA website showing a friendly against Jordan that never happened....but then we did end up playing them at a later date.  coincidence?

We were also meant to play Indonesia according to FIFA but I don't think that happened.

good point, i think there may be one or two other examples of fifa website showing matches we knew nothing about and never happened too.  must just be crossed wires or something.

I think the issue is that FIFA website sometimes jumps the gun before everything is set in place. We were meant to play Indonesia, but that fell through and we ended up playing an extra game in Thailand against an U23 selection I think.

It may be arranged but not public knowledge yet as when NZF have friendlies they normally announce a number at a time, not 1 at a time

this was in the press awhile back. thought NZF turned it down as it was gonna cost too much?

rojas, so special

we have money now

I think NZF would rather spend that money on development wouldn't they?

Surely if there was a game in 3 weeks we'd know about it now?
