I think the FIFA World Cup should expand to 40 teams with 8 groups of 5 teams. I belive the FIFA World Cup should be expaned to 40 teams with 8 groups of 5 teams from 2018.

For the qualification it should be this
Hosts Russia
Defending Champions ??
UEFA 13 teams
CONMEBOL 4 teams
CONCACAF 10 teams
AFC 10 teams
OFC 1 teams

For the qualification route it will be up to the confederation.

I would be great for the OFC because the OFC has been denied a place since 1966, I mean if you think about it this is the OFC FIFA World Cup record:

1974 Australia - Group Stage

1982 New Zealand - Group Stage

2006 Australia - Round of 16

2010 New Zealand - Group Stage

In an Ideal World:

Australia: 1966, 1970, 1978, 1986, 1994, 1998 and 2002

Israel 1990

The OFC is dead merge with Asia.

Apart from the fact it won't happen. Giving asia 10 sports, CONMEBOL 10 spots, south america 4 spot and africa 0 spots is stupid.

True. It also couldn't happen in 2018 or 2022. Nor is there a number of teams which could easily fit into groups of four whilst easily yielding a second round of sixteen. Nonetheless, eventually the pressure will mount to offer extra World Cup spots.

The expansion may well happen at some point in the future, but virtually zero chance it'll happen over the next two tournaments (not including Brazil 2014 here). The expansion to 40 teams is the logical step - but rather than 8 groups of 5 teams, it'll probably be 10 groups of 4, with the winners and top 6 runners-up advancing to knock-out round.

The allocation of extra spots accross confederations would/will be an absolute bitch-fight.

I have quietly wondered for years about the possibility of expansion. Eight groups of five is the least cumbersome expansion; but even this would be huge. it would create an extra four games per group. Thirty-two more group games in total. The major nations would hate it, their players and clubs already (rightly) whine about fatigue. The minor nations would love this. This results in greater representation for them. Ultimately the decision would be made according to the wishes of the television companies. Who knows, might they want more games?
