FRIENDS FROM  NZ

since your pool of players is very small  ,  i would like to know

WHICH PLAYERS ARE THE MOST LIKELY TO GET SOME  TRIAL TO GET TO THE WORLD CUP ?

WINSTON  REID  IS NEEDED  FOR A FAST YOUNG RIGHT BACK DEFENDER , and it is a must for HERBERT  to bring him

TOMMY SMITH IS ANOTHER   ONE  that may get a call

is there any  player in your  NZ  CHAMPIONSHIP  that may deserve a look up, is there anyone there in  a  remarkable performance  ,  brent fisher ?

and  is there any  under age  teeneger from the last  world cup, to be able  to  get  a cnance ?

regards from argentina

Reid is still looking at playing for Denmark as far as I know at this stage, and Smith I think still fancies his chances with England.  I'm sure Ricki will be in regular enough contact with them, as he has in the past, but at this point the ball is in there court.

Other than those already in the squad, I can't see anyone in he NZFC having a chance at the squad.

I added Reid as a friend on facebook and he accepted me last night and I asked him about the NZ/Denmark thing and if he'd represent us.  He said he's 50/50 and it depends on a few things.  I didn't want to be pushy but I asked what they were anyway but he'd signed out so I'm hoping he'll get back to me on that.

Sort of but not as bad.

I wanted to know what the story was, nobody seemed to have a clue so I added him and will extract it from him by force if I deem it necessary.

WINSTON REID DECLARES FOR DENMARK

Winston Reid has now officially declared for the Danish national team. The promising young defender is considered to be a huge talent for the future by his club of four years, FC Midtjylland. Winston Reid faced a tough decision when trying to choose between the country of his birth - New Zealand, who have recently qualified for the 2010 World Cup - and his adopted home but said the decision was simple.

"It's true that I had trouble deciding whether I would declare for New Zealand or Denmark." The 21-year-old explained "but the real turning point came when a crazed, maniacal stalker from New Zealand added me on Facebook. He was a real creep. Tried to extract it from me by force - and I don't want to go into what that means"

My heart nearly stopped when I read the first few sentences.  Fortunately it was somewhat amusing.

I didn't, honest.  For the greater good, though, so I did.

Anyone sensing a facebook group something along the lines of "WINSTON REID DECLARE FOR NEW ZEALAND!" . Get one thousand members and then invite him so he can see the  support.

He replied to me today, reckons he will make his decision very soon.

he said it is a very hard decision but he hoped to make the right one.

I replied and said fair enough, but it'd be good to see him  in a kiwi jersey!!!!

I was quite surprised he A) accepted my request and B) replied!!!

all we can do is wait now. unless anyone wants to go to Denmark and follow him with a NZ Flag?

I would but kinda busy at the mo!!!

Hilarious if we only managed to pull about 17 and he was so put-out he declared for Denmark.

I met with Winston at his home in 2006 - went there specifically to try to convince him to play for NZ. Big drive in a day - Berlin to his home in Jutland for lunch, and then on to Cologne. 1800Km from memory!

Anyway, Winston's step-father is a very proud Dane who REALLY wants to have a "son" play for Denmark. His NZ mother was indifferent, but seemed to be very much influenced by the view of her partner. Winston appeared to be somewhat indifferent to it all in that company.

However, he is part-Maori, from South Auckland and I believe in his heart he would love to play for New Zealand in a World Cup. It will be tough for him, just as it was for Michael McGlinshey, who could not make the "break" from Scotland until me moved "down under". It is hard when your team-mates - at club and national level - not to mention your "family" have such a strong tie to another country and an equally strong view on the relative football merits of the two countries.

Also - Winston is a very regular starter for Denmark at Under 21 level.

Having said all that, he may be the answer to our chances of having the option of playing 4-4-2.
