There is four to go from Europe, and one from Africa???

Is that correct.

After November 18th, we will know more about who we might play because of the seedings and which pot we will go in??

Is their a simple webpage that explains it?

6 to go 4 from Europe, 1 from Africa, and the CONCACAF/CONMEBOL playoff.

The games are on Thursday our time (results from first leg in brackets)

France - Ireland (1-0)
Slovenia - Russia (1-2)
Ukraine - Greece (0-0)
Bosnia - Portugal (0-1)

Uruguay - Costa Rica (1-0)

Algeria - Egypt (one-off play-off on neutral ground)

Posted this in another thread:

There will be 4 pots. First pot will have the top seeds, which will be South Africa (hosts), Italy (defending champions), Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, England and France (or, if France don't qualify, the Netherlands).

The remaining pots are determined on geogrpahical basis. One of them will have the remaining 8 European sides. The other two will have a combination of the teams from other confederations (assuming Uruguay qualify, it'd be 5 from CAF, 4 from AFC, 3 from CONCACAF, 3 from CONMEBOL, and NZ from OFC). So for those pots it'll be a combination of 5+3 and 4+3+1. This would mean we would be in the same pot as AFC teams, meaning we couldn't be in the same group as Australia. Which 3 ends up with us will be a FIFA decision once the qualifying compete.

NB. If Costa Rica come back in the second leg, the allocation of the last two pots would change (then we'd have an extra CONACAF team and a team less from CONMEBOL, which would change the maths a bit).

C'mon Costa Rica!

Looks unlikely though. Uruguay are a bunch of cheats.

that would allow us more scope to play Australia beforehand. a game in wellington or sydney, if both teams could put out strong sides, could have quite an edge to it - and would be bloody good fun.

Hope to see Russia, Ukraine, Bosnia, Costa Rica and Egypt progress.  Not sure about France and Ireland, I love them both.

Incidentally, why did they not go into extra-time then penalties when Egypt beat Algeria 2-0.  Seems like the logical thing to do for me.

I'm guessing, and it is a guess, that its because the Africans use it as a double to qualify for their cup? Not sure on that though

So who do you want in the All Whites Group???

I say give us England, South Korea and South Africa.

Then we might be on our way to the sweet 16. (round of 16)

Because the game was played in the group stage - there's no regulations for extra time and penalties for games in group stages of qualifying. Extra time/penalties scenario only applies to play-off/knock-out games.

Actually, the original tie-breaker in this situation was meant to be drawing of lots (since all other tie-breaking avenues had been exhausted), but common sense has prevailed and thus they'll play a one off, winner takes all, game.

Actually, assuming Uruguay qualify, only one of these teams could be our potential opponent (either South Africa or England).

I like the idea of getting 3 big nations like Portugal/ Netherlands, Mexico/ Argentina and England or something.

Maybe:
NZ
Portugal
Argentina
Cameroon

That's certainly possible. Probably wouldn't be great watching for an AW fan though...

Precisely, just like in '82 - we didn't go into extra time against Saudi Arabia, we had a playoff.
