Hi guys. I am from Hungary, Europe. We are doing a Hungarian blog to support All Whites in the WC on one of the biggest sites of our country. I think I will need some help from New-Zealand, because we dont have too much information about your team and your football history. Of course I know allwhites.co.nz and nzfootball.co.nz, but I would need some real opinion from supporters as well.
Could you help me in this?
I would ask you some questions. (eg. Who you think is the best football player ever in NZ history?)
You can check our blog here: allwhites.blog.hu (it is in hungarian language, but the design and the videos are good as well.)
So, would you help me in presenting NZ football and AW to Hungary?
Thanks in advance.

Okay. Then have a try:
What is the expected starting lineup of AW on the WC matches?
What are the strenghs/weaknesses of your team?
Who will become an interantional star on the WC from AW?
Who was te best ever AW in NZ football history?
What was the biggest (most famous) victory of AW ever?
Any epic fails?
What do the supporters expect from AW on the WC?
Are ther any traditional songs to support the team? Chants etc.
I have some more, but for now it is enoguh... Thanks.

At the risk of incurring mod wrath...
Hey KK, thanks for the request, here's a quick summary.
What is the expected starting lineup of AW on the WC matches? Possibly what is going up against Slovenia in the friendly tomorrow morning (NZ Time) in Maribor. GK: Mark Paston, Defence: Winston Reid, Ryan Nelsen, Tommy Smith.Midfield: Leo Bertos, Jeremy Christie, Simon Elliot, Tony Lochead. Strikers: Shane Smeltz, Rory Fallon, Chris Killen/Chris Wood.
What are the strenghs/weaknesses of your team?
Strengths: Solid Defence, reasonably potent attack (for NZ anyway), great team spirit and unity, a real battling attitude.
Weaknesses: perhaps a lack of creativity in midfield, lack of pace, general lack of technical quality (at least compared with a lot of the other sides at the WC)
Who will become an interantional star on the WC from AW?
If he gets in the goals, Shane Smeltz, or maybe one of the young defenders, Smith or Reid.
Who was the best ever AW in NZ football history?
Wynton Rufer, Oceania player of the century,Playing for Werder Bremen, scored vs AS Monaco in the 2-0 win at the European Cup Winners cup in 1992.
What was the biggest (most famous) victory of AW ever?
Either the 2-0 win over China to get to the 1982 World Cup, the previous game where we had to beat Saudi Arabia 5-0 to get to the playoff vs China, we scored 5 goals in the first half, the 1-0 win over Bahrain in Wellington last November to make this WC, or even the 1-0 win over Serbia last sat
Any epic fails?
Getting knocked out of qulaifying for the 2006 WC by Vanuatu...nuff said :)
What do the supporters expect from AW on the WC?
Bit of a difference between hopes and expectations maybe, hopes are that we can get points, maybe even a win. Getting out of the group would be viewed as a minor miracle and one of the highlights in NZ sporting hsitory. Even a draw in group play would be seen as an amazing result by football fans here I think. With the recent good performances vs Australia and Serbia, expectations may have risen a little with maybe more of an expectation that we may get something out of the games at least be competitive and proove that we deserve to be at the WC.
Are ther any traditional songs to support the team? Chants etc
"Clap Clap, Clap Clap Clap, Clap Clap Clap Clap All Whites!"
plus a few others that are a little difficult to put in type. :)

OK, new thread for this.
Just to correct one mistake in Hub's post, the game against China was a 2-1 win for the All Whites.

Are ther any traditional songs to support the team? Chants etc
Nothing rhymes with Ivan Vicelich.

Epic fails - there is a common theme in NZ that after we qualified for Spain, we made mistakes, but this has always been generalised.
I presume the feeling is that there was a great opportunity wasted, that the game was not advanced as it should have been. NZ football didn't start gettin g players into better leagues, the NZFC wasn't enhanced, and of course it would be 28 years before we made another WC Finals.
The hope is that this will not repeat - that we will not 'repeat the mistakes of 82'. This, again, has always been a very general statement, but (again assuming) interested parties would want football to develop in NZ, to produce more and better players, for the All Whites to play in NZ more and against better opposition (here and abroad), and for our age-grade teams to ontinue the great strides they have made as of late. Above all, a long-term strategy put in place that can achieve all of this and more.
Disclaimer: I was not here for the 82' era, and didn't notice much relating to football in the subsequent years.
Expectations form the WC: That the all whites play with the composure that we have seen lately, that they play to their strengths and have an intelligent plan in place for each game. Anything over and above that is a bonus.
As I have said before - low expectations, high hopes.

Epic fails? Aside from the aforementioned Vanuatu debacle, not paying coaching duo John Adshead and Kevin Fallon what they were asking post-1982 is the biggest mistake ever made in the game here.

Ryan Nelsen is our star player. Captain for Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League. He's really the spine of our team.

Getting a point at the WC weould be a minor miracle, getting out of the group would be one of the single biggest upsets in World Cup history up there with Nth Korea and USA beating Italy in whatever year it was.
